very common misconception this year. we are not like alabama football- where they strategically play conservative offense when they could throw the ball up and down the field all day if they wanted to (SEE JULIO JONES).

its a mix of 2 things... our defense being so good that it took our opposition a lot longer to penetrate and the fact that we flat out couldnt shoot.

this was the worst shooting team i can ever remember at cuse. triche and mcw shooting 3's in the 20's was tragic and Cooney shooting as horrifically as he did makes it a miracle we were able to win 4 games in a row when it counted.

He may have been referring to the stodgy nature of our offense, running 10 plays, not doing all that much, relying on mismatches and one-on-one plays. When you've got the horses, that offense works. When you don't well, then you don't. Also, the name of the game is to put the round ball in the round hoop, and we weren't too good at it, no matter what the offensive scheme. Some guys just flat out can't shoot no matter what. We had more than our fair share of those guys this year.

Cuse cannot help if the officiating dictates poor offensive performances based on aggressive, often foul prone defenses by teams that are not as athletic or skilled.

It's funny. . . The Syracuse Zone was THE hot topic for three days after SU beat Indiana and Marquette. Suddenly it was a supurb defense, coached and played brilliantly, and it was destined to do dastardly things against Michigan. Then, like the morning mushrooms, the praise shriveled a week later. Now it's back to the old diet of "here's what you need to do to beat the zone" and everyone's firm conviction that Syracuse plays "ugly" basketball. Whoa, guys, you're talking about a program that has made its living off the fast break! We just had a down year for shooters, that's all. Where's the love?-VBOF

Eh, I think most Syracuse would agree - our offense was not what we were expecting, but you adapt. And JB did, we always play zone, regardless of our offense. That hardly qualifies as wanting to play 1955 style basketball...stupid comment.

Saw Lupica eating breakfast at the Omni Saturday morning in ATL. Before I saw him I heard him say "he's the best putter of all time". I turned to my friend who was facing his way and I said "is that Lupica?" Annoying voice.

Watching my DVD of the 2003 FF, some things struck me. First is that the 2003 team pushed the ball up court ALL the time. 2013 team walked the ball up court when they didn't have a break. Second since the guards helped so much on rebounding, there were fewer fast breaks. And lastly, since most teams worried about turning the ball over, taking their time on offense, going deep in the clock and this in turn slowed SU's offense down. Add the bad shooting touch of SU and it appeared that JB didn't like offense.
