No. That would be Cooney. He could have a 7 of 10 night and some people would still find reasons to complain, I'm sure.

Shortening Malachi's name to 'Mal' got me thinking. Somebody here is for sure working on a photoshopped picture of Malachi dressed as Darth Mal or something to that effect (affect? I never know the difference) right?
I'm not a huge Star Wars buff, but this seems too good to pass up.

Disclaimer: It's obviously premature to proclaim much at all after two exhibition games.
That said, I'm really, really impressed with Malachi. His ability as a shooter (gorgeous stroke) goes without saying. But his rebounding, passing, ball handling and overall hustle and energy really have me excited. I read different posters on here who watched him in high school and warned us that he's but a one-trick pony with no real desire to do much of anything.
Here's to hoping he continues to impress vs the real teams.
The best thing about Mal is he is probably going to get a lot of catch and shoot opportunities because defenses will key on G and Cooney so much, at least at the start of the year. When teams realize he and Lydon are also excellent shooters I'm sure defensive gameplans will change, but you could see yesterday at the start of the game Florida Southern was keying on Cooney and Gbinije to start, and that lead to him getting wide open shots.
Defenses keying on Cooney is the biggest fallacy told around these parts. They dont key on him. They simply have one defender hound him.
agree. where does this silliness come from? how often does a guard or any player on the perimeter get double teamed, especially in a mtm defense? If Cooney improves it will be because his shooting is more selective, and even then, who knows? I hope that his last hoorah is a good shooting percentage.Defenses keying on Cooney is the biggest fallacy told around these parts. They dont key on him. They simply have one defender hound him.
Not coming off your guy to play help defense = keying on that guy. That's what defenses do against Cooney.
not really. its called defense. keying on a guy is when your defense is set up to deny him the ball, double, angle him into certain spots on the court. it requires a coordinated system utilizing multiple defenders.
Simply having one defender take him out of the game is not keying in on him.
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Stop calling him Shirley!I'm one of those people who doubted him, based on a few HS+AS games. The guy i saw in the two exhibition games is a different cat, altogether. Exhibitions, shirley, but i'm impressed and much more hopeful re: his potential now. Sometime, a la Dennis Green, "they are who we thought they were." Sometimes not.

My point is MALACHI is going to get wide open shots.
People won't help of G and Trevor early.
Why does someone always have to turn every thread into something good or bad about about Cooney? We may as well not talk about any other player.
If you have an opinion about him it probably doesn't matter if he shoots 50 percent or 20 percent this year. Chances are that same person is going to have the same opinion no matter what he does. My god.
I didn't mention one positive or negative thing about him, and it turned into a Cooney thread.
All threads are now required to cover either Cooney or Shafer, preferably both. If you can somehow also weave in a discussion of Carmelo, Brandon Triche or Doug Marrone, or make a case for what exactly defines a true SU fan, that's even better. Why does someone always have to turn every thread into something good or bad about about Cooney? JB will be announcing this at an afternoon press conference after which we will have linguistics and body language experts joining us here to break it all down.On the advice of Doug Marrone and Carmelo, Cooney has decided to bulk up like Brandon Triche and ask Shafer for a spot on the football team.

He is clearly performing as Giorgio Germont in La traviata.A linguistics body language expert studies all the ways someone can use a hand gesture as a form of expressive non-verbal communication. Just look at JB in my avatar picture. What more can I say.
