Marcus Smart is unreal

Smart is awesome indeed.. memphis plays so frenetically though they make ok st look better than they are( which is a legit top 10 team)

We have a history of beating the piss out of overrated teams from the west.

Outside of Blake Griffin and Oklahomo T.T

Marcus Smart reminds me of a better Dion Waiters- the powerful body, ability to score anywhere on the floor

Hopped onto the board to make a similar thread- glad someone else acknowledged it.

26 points in a half against a top 15 team. Legit.

Wow--Smart is good, but I don't know about "better" than the #4 pick in the draft, or a similar comparison from a game perspective.

I also think you are discounting Dion significantly. Waiters had / has room for improvement--he left school after his sophomore season--but c'mon. He also didn't have the ball in his hands 100% of the time like Smart does.

Don't be fooled.

Smart reminds me of a quicker Will Bynum. Both strong bodies. Smart is a few inches shorter than Dion, no?

Hope we don't have to face Ok. St. in the tourney.
They remind me of the 2004 Memphis squad we played at MSG - all wing players with great athleticism, but no real front court size. Memphis' style plays right into their game.

PH was never a point guard though.

You're right...they have similar builds and I was optimistic that Harris would bring similar skills. No way Harris had the ball handling skills that Smart has. I just thought coming in that Harris was going to be a great all around player. He had the hype.

How about a really fit John Bagley?

Speaking of Marcuses--he reminds me a lot of Marcus Banks from UNLV.

And I mean the collegiate version, not the marginal pro.

Dude killed it tonight. Also had 5 steals and a couple legit blocks. Kid is for real.

Lots of great players this year. Can't wait.

Don't worry guys, his old high school coach is an alum of the college where I work, so I'll make sure to get the inside scoop that'll help us shut him down.

Or not. Probably not, actually. I mean, let's be realistic, here.

Smart is an excellent player, but tonight didn't impress me too much. Smart was able to pad his stats since Memphis' guards played like sh@t. Under Pastner Memphis has played twelve ranked teams and has only beaten one, St. Mary's #21 in the Coaches Poll, they weren't ranked in the AP.

Is this the first "Teams I don't want to play in the tourney" thread of 2013-2014 season? I wonder how long that list is going to get this year.

Regardless of how another top 15 team's guards played, the dude put up a line tonight. What he did would have been impressive against Colgate.

That would actually be an interesting thing to track. Who knows how long that list could get!

Durant saw the game and said Smart could play in the NBA right now.
