We got back in the game getting the ball to Marek in the high post. He still doesn’t look 100% comfortable as the focal point of the offense, but for this team, running the offense through him right now makes sense.
I think it will be more successful with Bourama and/or Quincy playing down at the low post. Alan can do some damage slashing too I think.
We almost lost the game near the end, when JG kept handling the ball and trying to beat guys one on one. I assume JB wanted Joe with the ball then thinking Bryant was going to foul. But they were smart, and more than content to let him try and beat their defenders. Real good move by their HC putting a big on Joe late. That was the sequence when Joe decided instead of driving by the big, slow footed guy covering him, he would try a fall back jumper, which was the worst possible decision he could have made.
You put Marek with the ball on the high post, have Buddy, JB and Alan on the perimeter and Q or BS down low, all moving around and a lot of teams are going to have a hard time stopping us.
When Kadary is in, there is less outside shooting but more slashing and another really capable passer on the floor. JG is actually also a good distributor, especially in transition. But it looks like Kadary is more of a pure PG to me. Limited sample yesterday...that is based more on what he did at Brewster last year.
This could be a really fun team to watch on offense. The defense on the other hand...
I will say that while the defense was truly horrific in the first half, it was decent in the second half. Not great but it was noticeably better. That gives me a little hope for the future.
