I think what really helped SU is the overwhelmingly high fan rate within 60 miles of the city. We have lots of fans...in upstate NY but I don't think our fans our nearly as hardcore as big State Schools. That study is based on some pretty aged data. The sports world has changed a lot in the last ten years
Agreed, northern fans just aren’t that engaged compared to the south. When I visited LSU, it was like entering a different planet on game day, people traveling from hours away just to sit in the parking lot and watch the game on their TV outside the stadium. If Syracuse was winning at the rate LSU has or SU used to in the last great era, everybody would be an avid fan across the state and beyond. The first thing the AD needs to do is have an outside accounting firm put a value on the football program so people are aware of what their dealing with.Agreed, northern fans just aren’t that engaged compared to the south. Put a value on the football program? Why would anyone care? I don’t own equity, and I don’t see an investment opportunity. If Syracuse was winning at the rate LSU has or SU used to in the last great era, everybody would be an avid fan across the state and beyond. So it can be assessed and thought about fairly in relation to other football programs. It would seem from this one data point that is more akin to USC and Miami than Vanderbilt and Northwestern, for instance.Put a value on the football program? Why would anyone care? Just win. No more excuses for Dino. Win some games, go to a bowl. Wash Rinse Repeat. So it can be assessed and thought about fairly in relation to other football programs. It would seem from this one data point that is more akin to USC and Miami than Vanderbilt and Northwestern, for instance.

Most states have multiple teams which fragment the fan base. New York really only has Syracuse.I think this website actually gives a better representation of 2022
It basically affirms Cuse is the dominant team within 90 miles...and falls off rapidly after that.
It also captures the Clemson bandwagon fans nationally
It affirms my belief that Ohio State has the largest and most widespread fan base out there.
That is how it appears at this time. When Syracuse was winning in the 90's, there would have been a strong argument the other way.No one thinks Syracuse is USC
When I was going to ABC national bowling tournaments in the 90's and early 2000's .That is how it appears at this time. When Syracuse was winning in the 90's, there would have been a strong argument the other way.
Except for ND, PSU, and Rutty and UB to a lesser extent. SU‘s territory is the thruway the mass border west to exit 47 and 81 from Abay to Marathon. Most states have multiple teams which fragment the fan base. New York really only has Syracuse.

not exactly to most vibrant and growing part of the country. (except for breweries and wineries, those are spreading like dandelions in April)
Outside 90 miles from Syracuse it is very fragmented. Most states have multiple teams which fragment the fan base. New York really only has Syracuse.
Yup but it drops off at the state border...and becomes Cult land.Hmmmm…… I disagree with to Marathon
I would say down to Binghamton easily
I see them all the time in the South...the issue is most are not hardcore now with mediocre Football and Basketball. When I was going to ABC national bowling tournaments in the 90's and early 2000's .
We always ran into displaced New Yorkers from upstate who were still SU fans.

Basketball only I would think in Scranton.Yup, it’s literally once you cross that line
Gets a little hairy in Scranton with the GMAC connection tho
Basketball only I would think in Scranton.
When the Bills were down, their support shrunk back to the core area. Now they have a playoff team and Josh Allen, they are becoming fashionable all over upstate.Outside 90 miles from Syracuse it is very fragmented.

More like those are the bandwagon fans.Seems we've managed to help Clemson gain a lot of fans in NY...

You know the guy at work who doesn't really follow CFB but he is a huge Clemson fan especial when he knows you bleed Orange. These guys are Duke or UNC fans in Hoops too.
