Matt Park

I had to listen to the second half on the radio and I was sorely disappointed with Park. I know he bleeds Orange and I want him to do well but:
1.) down and distance is not something he seems to realize is important to the listener
2.) he doesn't seem to care about updating the listeners regarding how much time is left in the game, which was especially maddening when we were trying to upset Clemson on the road
3.) he inexplicably seems determined to tell you where opposing players are from instead of telling you what is happening on the field
4.) listen to his call on the Collins td pass, there was no way a listener would know whether JRS caught the ball or not
5.) late in the game Clemson had a big catch and run and it was not until the next play when he decided to mention they were goal to go, the listener had no idea a big play had just been made of 20-30 yards
I never want someone to lose their job but I'm incredulous that we can't/refuse to find a better announcer given Newhouse is such a dominant part of the university.

And he teaches at Newhouse?

This. It’s maddening while you are driving. He assumes people are watching it. He’s maybe the worst I’ve ever heard other than a kid. Sooo many great PbP guys from Newhouse. There’s a reason he’s still here. He clearly loves the school but it’s like he’s doing the game from a bar stool while watching on TV

I don’t think he is well, he looks terrible, we know he has his demons to fight. I just sometimes wonder where he is in that fight these days
Matt's not a looker. Never has been. I don't think it has anything to do with his past issue...just genetics

I posted about this in the clock mismanagement thread. I had no idea how much time was left multiple times in the 4th quarter. Down and distance, and time left seemed secondary to whatever was happening, yet they were literally the only thing that mattered in the 4th quarter of that game.

I am a huge Park detractor but he has definitely improved this year. I’m not clueless about what’s going on and much less annoyed

I often have to listen to the radio broadcast and I agree with much being said regarding having no idea what's going on when Park is calling the game. The kids at WAER are much better sadly and I have switched over to their call lately.

I thought Matt Park was a great color commentator when he was working with Mark Johnson. But he is an awful play-by-play caller.
Definitely has the gift of gab vs the attention to detail. My son is a freshman and I’d actually thought to myself how the dad who does the announcing does a better play by play lay analysis after each play, over the PA mind you, than Park could ever do on the fly. He’s too busy trying to make sure there’s no dead air IMO

Play by play announcer is meant to do exactly that. Describe the play by play. That comment above about he assumes people are watching is spot on. It’s like an essay of information about the game as a whole and not play by play. It’s definitely not great

Logan was tops.
I've been to the radio show at Meier's a few times and Park handles it very well.
I live on the West Coast and
I don't listen live on the radio anymore.
Onetime, I think it was an SU vs Army home game in '89, we were living in CA and a Syracuse buddy came over the house for the game even though it wasn't televised. Instead we called my father in Syracuse and listened to the game on the radio - my dad placed the phone on front of the radio and we listened to WSYR 570 AM (on your dial) on separate extensions. It was a 3+ hour, long distance phone call, but at least we had the weekend rate.
That's all the technology we had in the bad old days, shortly after the Big Bang.

That’s being a really loyal fan!
