...But a loss would have hammered the point home.

So if I'm reading this right, you were hoping we lost? To Uconn? Interesting.

Glad you wanted us to lose there to "prove a point."

Loser.

No, what I wanted was for them to put UConn away. If this team keeps screwing around, we're all going to be losers.

Relax. Just because someone says a point would have been driven home doesn't mean that person wanted them to lose.

44cuse

Close enough. You implied that a loss would've been better at proving a point than a close win.

That doesn't mean I wanted them to lose. They still haven't learned their lesson. If they keep letting teams back in, they'll keep running the risk of getting burned. There's no reason for it. None.

Huh? Learned their lesson?

Here's why UConn clawed their way back into that game -- they are a talented team and were playing for their tournament lives on their home court against their biggest rival. I would have been more surprised if they gave up and lost by 30.

JB said it best earlier this year. Its never good to lose.

Uconn came back because we shot 50 in the first half 35 in the second with a few turnovers. Uconn had a good gameplan and found away to work around melo some on offense and hit the boards hard. Points in the paint is the easiest way to come back on offense. It also fires up defense.

Someone was saying Melo isn't as dominant off his second bounce earlier in teh season. I can see what they were getting at.

Then you haven't been paying attention. They're not a good team at all and we could have easily won by 30 whether they gave up or not.

dude. just stop

We shot 35% in the second half because we started taking bad shots. Most, if not all, of the turnovers were unforced.

No one's forcing you to read my posts or respond to them. There's even an ignore option.

You think a team's record is all that matters and you're entitled to your opinion. Well, guess what? I like to look a little deeper. I like to analyze how a team is playing. Where their heads are at. I'm entitled to my opinion as well.

Not that it has anything to do with you, but where is the ignore button. It would be hugely useful this year.

On Monday night there was a huge thread about how UCONN sucked.

Did something change before the game tonight?

Learned our lesson?

Because we were trying to give the lead back?!

My Lord this board sucks sometimes.

Uh, we've had double-digit leads in several recent games and instead of putting opponents away, we've let them back in. If you think that's a good habit to get into, that's your right.

I think it changed right after they tied the score in the second half. I guess some fans would rather credit G'town, USF and UConn for their "scrappy" play instead of acknowledging our own team's complacency and how that translates into poor shot selection, lazy defense and unforced turnovers.

We were outstanding in the first half. Reminded me of how we were playing earlier in the year. In fact, tonight was a microcosm of the entire season. Hungry and playing with purpose in the first half. Taking everything for granted in the second half.

Well, it is frustrating to see a nice lead shrink, but you do realize this is a competitive sport, don't you? Some of these Big East teams have a few decent players and that makes it hard to impose your will on them for 40 minutes. Sorry we aren't winning these games more easily because if this continues the walk-ons are never going to develop.

Yes, I do think it's a great habit. I hope they blow more leads.

This has always been a characteristic of JB's teams. It is IMHO his biggest weakness. To his credit, he is all about being a gentleman and a good sport. It just does not seem to be in his nature to have that killer instinct, though. We tend to get very passive on both offense and defense when we get a big lead, and that allows other teams to seize the initiative. Even refs subconsciously reward hustle, aggression, and initiative. The crowd goes against us in those situations as well.

Although tonight, in our defense, UConn's comeback was fueled primarily by desperation / frustration / What 3's that just kept falling, and some rather fortunate and accidental plays inside. Very few of their points were the result of them really breaking down our defense.

The killer instinct was there earlier in the season. And UConn hit all but one of their threes in the first half.
