A left handed power catcher should boost the offense a bit.If Romine shows more with the bat they could have a decent tandem behind the plate. If not Romine maybe Sanchez gets an opportunity and J-R of course. Now they need to scope out a third base possibility in the hope that A-Hole loses his bid for reinstatement. Cano is the prime target now. Maybe Granderson can be resigned.Wells is not the answer as another outfielder . He looks tired and I believe the team needs additional speed out there and the base-paths.

Signing a 29 year old catcher to a 5 year deal is to benefit the first two years tops and after that only a team like the Yankees can afford a move like that.

I'm thinking here is that was a slam. OK i'm used to it.As long as A-Hole gets slammed as well by the Arbitrator or court decision. He must be removed from the game. The record books for the game must be restored in significance by the great players who set them. Roger Maris and Hank Aaron need to be placed in their rightful place in history.Even pitching record appear to have been diminished by the enhanced cheaters. Get them out or at the VERY LEAST,place them in a different section in the book.Drug enhanced morons.

also gave up the #16 pick in the draft. The yanks really don't care about their farm system.

That's the main reason their farm system sucks. Cali a question for you. If MCann is a good deal at 85 mil., how much would the Mick and Yogi get today.

Yeah, definitely a great deal. Another guy that hits about .250 with a terrible OBP. Fits in perfectly.

Its pretty well established that managing their young players is a subject they don't care about.Cashman prefers a known quantity over a kid and always has. Things won't change until he is forced by management or allowed to leave after his contract expires.

It's funny because it's true.

I'm even a Yankees fan.

Catchers break down quicker than any other position player...if he gives the Yanks 2 good years it's a decent deal. Would he help as a DH? Don't know, that would depend on what they have at the time.

I'm just not crazy about giving him that kind of money for five years. But if you don't you probably don't get him. I think the move is an attempt to upgrade the offense in the short term, the risks and potential logjam of aging DH types be damned.

That's the way you look at it if you have money like the Yanks and you're right, they wouldn't get him unless they offered those extra years.

There's no way they're staying under $189 million in 2014 with this signing, even if A-Rod is somehow off the books next season. I thought the big bucks would get directed toward at least one starting pitcher and a top outfielder.

A quality catcher is always a good thing if he can get you 120-135 games. As for a first baseman OXtreme...those numbers are very pedestrian for a first baseman at that price.

No doubt. I'm just not sure that's what they will get with this signing.

Why not they have $90 mil off the books this year, so they sign McCann and Beltran and resign Cano they will be fine. Also resign Kuroda and possible Tanaka if Arod is suspended for the year.

Geez give me till the all-star break. There are guys I hope are released or traded before the season. They include Hafner Reynolds, and Wells. Stewart wore out his body and welcome enough for the Yanks. McCannand Romine should be enough to get the team through the season.

What's the big deal with Beltran. I thought he was old.

Should have just kept Russell Martin, he's a whole pantload cheaper.

If you can sign some other impact guys but it looks like the pickings are slim. To me, free agency is the wrong way to build a team especially when you have older guys that you're giving so much money too. Granted, it is the Yanks and money isn't so much an issue but still looking at older broken down players after signing McCann is just playing with fire...ie injured players.
