A player with more volatile game results might have a similar rating for the season but have a worse record by pulling up TDs and yards that don't actually matter

Nunes, Arob, Dantley, Paulus - their best games were equal or more efficient than McCord 's here. But mccord's floor is so high. He's only had one truly subpar game

McCord had 6 full games at Ohio State that were better than any here (surrounding talent)

It's a shame that they have lost 3 because he's been good enough to only lose one. Threw for 350 per game in three losses

Respectfully, a dude for any team hitting 64% of his passes and posting 350y/g through the air is not doing “consistently alright.” Not sure that’s fair.

You get this, but the context around playing within the system’s at Ohio State and Syracuse are remarkably divergent.

I Wonder if we had a Harrison type on this team what the stats would look like. Pena would be running free every play. OG would never be doubled.

He throws all the time, yards come that way.

His QB rating is very consistent, pretty small range.

Overall his rating is 57th. I think he's better than that because he keeps us in every game almost

One thing the stats don't capture is lack of open windows and decisions made to throw.
If throwing every play leads to 6 yd gains thats better than running unless its against our D.

I think people thought I was "anti-McCord" because I urged people to pump the brakes when we were discussing where he fit on the all-time SU great QB list. So I guess I flip the script here a bit. He is a great QB. While he may not be statistically elite in the context of what he has around him, he's pretty damn good. Without him we are probably 2-7.

Teams don't sell out to stop out run, We don't have a true #1 type WR and we don't have a good blocking oline and we still found a way to move the ball all but one interception prone game.

If our D could have stopped BC at all running, we probably get the ball 2-3 more times and it's an easy 40-17 type win.

McCord is not the problem. The OL is. I was at the game yesterday behind the Syracuse bench. The OL is big, but they are not very athletic which makes running the ball difficult. EVERYONE knows Syracuse has to pass the ball and they defend accordingly. Syracuse is ranked #128/134 in rushing offense averaging 2.96 yards/carry. And, they had 39 yards rushing vs. BC and BC's rushing defense is very average. Even with a one dimensional offense, McCord still performs well. McCord's weakness is that he is not fast/quick so when the protection breaks down, he is in trouble.

I said this is another thread, but Syracuse's DL looked undersized and BC's OL manhandled them yesterday. Brown is from Georgia so he knows what a top DL is supposed to look like, so it will be fixed.

He's statistically prolific, which makes it hard to be statistically efficient, especially without a ground game or decent pass protection. Castellanos' QB rating, (per Sportsreference.com), is 163.4, McCord's 137.9. That doesn't mean Castellanos is a better passer.

We do ask McCord to make a lot of high risk low reward throws. I think he's better than 57th no doubt

This 1000x What would we be without him?
probably right around 6-6 like we seem to be most seasons anymore

but he's been much more fun to watch than just about any season in the past 20 or so years

The guys is a fantastic QB. We are very blessed to have had him this year. Without question the greatest passing QB in Syracuse history. I predict success at the next level. If Devito can actually make it in the league this guy will be a star
