No. The vast majority of the NIL money comes from boosters who’ve already made their donations for ‘25. They do it before the end of the year because of tax purposes. That’s not to say someone won’t give a large endowment out of the blue, but the big money (The Falks, Lallys and former alumni who live out of state but get the newsletter and a phone call from Jenna Rodgers
Donations to NIL collectives are not tax-deductible. It says as much right on the donation form on the SU Football NIL website:

The team party was scheduled last month for the 18th to allow the entire team to attend due to Christmas break.
McCord’s initial eligibility request was submitted the first week of spring camp and denied almost immediately. His appeal was filed in August, with an amendment mid November. The NCAA has until February 6 to review and file a decision on the appeal, February 7 is deadline for eligible athletes to make thier decision to return or become draft-eligible. The NCAA sub committee which reviews the filings concluded that there has to be gross negligence by the athletic institutions involved (Ohio St., SU) in regards to player participation and show beyond fair preponderance of law that it was detrimental to the student athlete.
Unfortunately McCord does not fall into this category. Playing time received is not a show of negligence on behalf of the university and its proxy (Ryan Day). There was no ill-intent by playing an eligible athlete in a game.
That being said, ultimately Kyle and Syracuse are going to be denied a 5th year. However, his case and 40 plus similar cases have pushed the governing body Committee members to vote next year to make wide spread rule changes for all Division I sports to allow for 5 years eligibility.
That is a very detailed account. Thank you for that. Next man up….

Excellent recap and from what I know this is spot on. Certainly SU and Ohio State h ave done the right thing with the appeal but McCord is not going to get a waiver. Still a phenomenal season and we're all glad he came here.

However if a business pays for advertising via NIL isn’t that a business expense and filed appropriately? I ask because I am not certain.

I'd think so, but I'd also assume those payments wouldn't be funneled through an NIL collective and they would instead be making deals directly with the athletes through their agents/managers.

Isn't Jan 15th the draft deadline?

They were talking 5 to play 5 last Summer. Are they really going to wait until next Summer to vote on it?

Sure but to be on the books for 2024 it would have to be by years end so in this case it would matter. Thank you for the clarity.

This is not directed at you specifically Jeremy, but fi McCord isn't getting the waiver why haven't we signed another transfer QB yet or even offered (per my understanding). Is the guy were waiting for still on a team, maybe in the playoffs, or is the staff that confident that we can roll with Jakhari if we can't nab someone out of the portal.

This definitely feels like the Mullen story arc. We all get roped in thinking we've got a chance, only to have our heart crushed by a casual social media leak when our family is carving the Roast Beast.

I just hope it ends the same way, with a new savior from out of left field.

Great insight thank you.

I know where the McCord money comes from.
Bruce Campbell Hello GIF

Yes. They can do it through a collective or do it directly. If it’s through a collective they’re essentially paying them in exchange for a marketing agreement with a group of players.

the ups and the downs of this thread are incredible.

Finally some clarity.

This is very much in line to what I had been hearing for a bit.

I will say, I got excited with the Mccalister mistake, and thought there might be more going on behind the scenes or information that wasn’t fully out yet that the coaches know.

Sounds like it’s a pretty done deal and it’s time to move on from McCord.

What an awesome year, would love to have him back but unfortunately it’s not in the cards.

Thank you for this update and information.

There's a few things at play here. Cuse has brought in a few guys but the McCord appeal chances while extremely extremely slim are still a factor and I also believe Cuse isn't as infatuated with any of the transfer QB's like they were McCord last year. Cuse also has Jakhari plus 3 frosh QBs coming in next summer which again is going to be in any transfer QB's calculation. I suspect SU will ultimately bring in someone but the situation will need to play out.

I don't think Williams or any of the incoming guys scare off any transfer QB options TBH.

I am sure Fran has a hard date where he moves on if there is no answer.

It would not surprise me at all if the NCAA simply kicks the can down the road with no decision, knowing that we will move on and rescind the request soon.

I don't think it scares anyone off either but it's likely to be in there calculus. For example look at Syracuse last season when it brought in Kyle. Two returning guys who struggled tremendously and at that point not even Jakhari yet. This season a transfer knows Jakhari is there with a year under his belt plus 3 more QBs all recruited by this staff. Again probably not scaring off a top end transfer QB but it's also not a slam dunk like it was last year either.

I don’t even know what to think anymore. Stuff like what King Joseph Edwards is posting on twitter as recent as less than an hour ago makes me think Kyle really is coming back. But I understand what everyone else is saying as well. We all just need a concrete yes or no already lol.

I was hoping that Kyle's announcement of playing in the bowl game was an indication he had approval to come back next year. Why else would you risk injury if you were headed to the NFL draft?

I would think he doesn't play if he's actually going to the NFL during next draft cycle...

i.e. If the NCAA says no or does not respond shortly.
