McCord

I don't think the next QB will be able to make all of the throws he does. Or make the reads. Or make the decisions. Or keep us out of sacks. We throw the ball more than anyone in P4 vs P4 games yet we get sacked at only 2.43 per game. That is less than last year and 2021 when we ran 1930s offenses.

McCord makes them look good at pass blocking. Nothing he can do to hide bad run blocking

While this is true, it feels like after the BC game the pass blocking has actually improved. Just seems like he's had a clean pocket more often. Makes me think they're spending more practice time focusing on what they're good at as an offense, versus focusing on what they're not good at.

2019-2021 was a really dark period for the OL. I'm sure this year's version of McCord would have masked some of it, but still would have been a little rough I bet.

4 of the top 6 contributors on this year's OL were brought in from elsewhere to help fix the glitch. They haven't been perfect, but they've been better that those years.

Miami will be a test, one of the top pressure teams in the country. which also shows had bad the D is with the plays that allow if they don't get pressure.

One of the many things I like about McCord is he goes after certain DB's and matchups. I think it also helps the WR's as well knowing if they run their route the ball may be coming to them even if they were the 2nd or 3rd option along with dumpoffs to Allen. Love seeing this.

Even in 2018 where people said we had a good OL (IMO they were only serviceable) and with Dungey avoiding sacks we gave up 3.00 sacks per game vs 36.8 attempts per game. I do think that 2018 OL was a better OL than this year's. However, this year is 2.43 sacks vs 46.4 attempts.

Kyle currently leads the nation with 3946 yards on the season. He has 26 td's and 12 interceptions on the year. Except for one bad game, his interceptions total would be more in line with his general accuracy. Coming into a system he had to learn on the fly and throwing to all new receivers. Unbelievable!

And yet he isn’t talked about as one of the top qbs in the nation.

Quite amazing really

From a pure passing perspective I think he’s undoubtedly the most talented passer that’s ever worn the Syracuse Orange. Has been unreal to watch him this season, his ability to read defenses, throw with anticipation, and throw his receivers open are all things we haven’t seen up here in a very very long time.

I checked with a few NFL draft boards and the rating are inconsistent.

when you sit in the endzones you really see how early some of these throws are. This isn't days of old where you see guys open and hope they throw it.

I don’t know much, but I’ll say he throws a pretty spiral, better than anyone I can remember. Maybe devito on par with quality of throws?

A lot of our success has been McCord’s accuracy. His slant and post throws are terrific and likely difficult to reproduce.

The TD throw against Cal at the end of the game - that was overturned as a drop - blew me away.
Yeah. He has had a lot of throws where he put it just over one defender and in front of another to complete it to our guy. Even the factories don't always get guys that can make those throws. But they have elite talent at the other positions to make all of their QBs look good.

McCord is what I had hoped Devito would be. No disrespect meant to Devito.
Honestly, as prospects they weren’t even close. McCord was a 5 star top 25 QB. I think Devito was a non-top 250 low 4 star. It’s pretty easy to distinguish HS QB’s who have the potential to be developed into what we’ve seen from McCord and what we saw from Devito. Higher margin for success with someone who has all the traits that just need to be developed and put in the right system.
