McCord

Not sure I understand how McCord comes back after watching Allar the last 3 games. McCords stock can not get higher and this QB class after 2 is incredibly weak.
Stock in your eyes or stock in other peoples eyes? Just to play devils advocate, how many defenses did McCord face that were comparable to what Allar faced this year?

If McCord does truly have NFL starting potential he should be trucking these barely top 50 defenses we played and blowing up the stat sheets. Allar on the other hand is running offenses and having to make plays against top 10 defenses. That's what NFL scouts look at too.

As always I have to always say I agree McCord is a better QB than the rest of the hacks in this draft but people have to take off the orange colored glasses.

I think Draft Stock is different than the perception of one’s ability to complete in NFL. After the Miami game, it was all about this record breaking season and how he transformed this lowly program in one season. IMO, McCords stock can’t get higher because he’s a pure pocket passer. Putting this season on tape is the best thing for him.

Another season runs the risk of displaying more weaknesses with a less experienced team and tougher schedule. Highly touted QBs that come back for another year, in draft narratives, get exposed for more weaknesses.

He played those defenses last year and was 12-1 as ohio state starter including beating notre dame

All very true. Saying the same thing.

What if he doesn't get exposed for more weaknesses and excels against better teams next year. Won't his draft stock increase?

On the other hand If he does get exposed he's still a pocket passer and will end up in the same spot in the draft next years he is now right?

Tough decision for Kyle and good luck to him either way. At least both are good options to have.

Would think we need to know by the end of this weekend as classes start Monday.

Going to be interesting
Grad school can be pretty loose. I imagine there’s flex on deadlines and the normal class start time might not really apply since he might just do a single class online that he can define himself. Maybe it doesn’t work that way but have heard that directly about other (better academic) schools

I have been saying he should go if he has a draft grade. However, maybe i'm not looking at it simply as a case of european soccer. He is playing in Ligue 1 and getting paid (Syracuse). He isn't ready to move to the English Premier League to play for Arsenal (i'm using the William Saliba analogy). Saliba is the best CB in the world potentially but did a few years in Ligue 1 (being paid) to get better prepared.

Am I looking at it correctly?

Players in smaller leagues don't turn down those premier league offers when they come because they know they could disappear at any moment. Doesn't matter if they're ready or not.

Saliba got loaned back so it's not like he actually said he wasn't ready and turned down the offer.

Also best CB in the world is hilarious, he's nowhere close.

Selfishly, I'd love him back but I think it's the right time for him to go. Every game that goes by makes his accomplishments look better IMO.
Hard to argue with this. There's logic for him to come back. He'd have a full offseason of hype, probably would be a legit Heisman candidate, would land on a lot of draft boards this summer, etc. But there's risk as well. Schedule is tough and his stats could look worse, the more he's watched the more people pick apart flaws (happens in hoops constantly), plus injuries.

I'd love him to come back, but I suspect he's gone.

Supposedly Jan 21st.

Same. Strike while you can. There's no substitution for competing against pros.

Fully understand the logic.

I think that NIL changes the conventional wisdom, though. Especially if he could make more by returning versus being a 5th / 6th round pick. Not a "start earning money as quickly as possible" vs. playing for free dialectic anymore.

But wouldn't be surprised either way.

I still think the math says if you're going to be picked in the top 3 rounds, go. 5th or lower, stay. 4th is very close, I think for McCord stay would be better in that case.

I think there's a strong argument that he'll develop more quickly by staying, given that there's no way he's going to be atop an NFL depth chart going into camp next year. Getting ~all the reps as opposed to say 25% of camp reps and < 10% of practice reps after that and < 5% of game reps seems like a no brainer from that standpoint..

Financially staying is better than going as a 4th.

Can you remember way, way, way back to the season before Fran showed up and the vast majority of posters here thought that only a dual threat QB could win at Syracuse?
Yeah, obviously McCord has shown that isn't true. However, let's not overreact. Kyle is an ELITE passer and it may be years before we get this kind of talent behind center again. I would STILL say though, with a program like ours, we would do better (usually) with a dual threat.

All these big boy teams have guys who can escape and run at least a little.

If you can't escape, you better process fast and have a scheme that allows some quick throws.

The big teams with solid olines look for more home run throws. with Kyle we were able to throw from the mid and down throws, move the chains and hold the ball to help the D,
