McDonald vs. Axeman

Axe is not completely wrong. But as long as White and GMAC keep bringing these guys into the fold, it's ok. Although I'm not sure how a kid could think it's "University of Syracuse" if he's paid even a little attention to the materials that SU is sending him.

why does mcdonald care? number one its supposed to be funny 2 dont you have better things to do

I agree to a point. I think the underlying tone is the PS/syr.com or whatever they call it, really is negative in nautre when it comes to the sports teams locally or so it seems to me and apparently him. It fits with the general negative tone in syracuse as a whole.

That being said its not like GMcD doesnt have a direct line to axe if he wants it. So handle it offline, not like school girls over twitter

c'mon OCGM! of all the things to get your panties in a bunch about...

and axe is probably one of the most positive guys at the P-S

If you're recruiting and guiding young men to be productive adults maybe they should at least get the name of their future school right...

With Axe on this.

they also dont get how to play football the way that should either.

they will, on both accounts by coming here.

with GMcD on this.

and more importantly...millhouse.

Im with OCGM for the simple fact that the majority of people in CNY are so negative with regards to SU Football. It's mind blowing and frustrating and I think his response had to do with more than Axe's tweet.

I think the sigh was directed at blowing something so small out if proportion. Kids are making the biggest choice of their lives, often times choosing to leave some pretty horrendous neighborhoods and family situations. GM has spent hours, days, years sometimes working these relationships. I'm guessing - but following up a huge moment for the kid, the school, and GM himself with a nitpick about the school name probably seems moronic.

They will have plenty of time to get the name right. That and a lot of other things college will help turn them from kids to men - that's the point.

I dont like it and it gets annoying when people pronounce the school name wrong because their signing up to come here for the next 4 years. You would like to think they have done their research and know a little bit more about the school. With that said, I think kids do it because when you say University of it could be anybody. They want to get you on the edge of your seat. If they say Syracuse University then they have given away the answer without any suspense. Lebron's "DECISION" on ESPN really messed things up, now everyone wants to be in the bright lights when they announce.

If this strengthens the perception, even in a small way, in the minds of recruits that McDonald has their back and will stick up for them, then I'm all for it.

The whole thing is petty. I mean, there is a University and it is located in Syracuse. The word order isn't exactly crucial. They aren't saying Syracuse State University or College of Syracuse. Who cares?

Give the kids a break. So a 16 or 17 year old kid, in the excitement of the moment, tweets University of Syracuse instead of Syracuse University? C'mon, you're better than that!

Kid took every mention of Syracuse off his twitter - would be a shame if it was even in small part due to this and why GmcD would be upset.

McDonald has a bit of a track record for being hypersensitive on social media.

So, a radio personality tweets at 2 of our recruiters (most active on Twitter) basically telling them that they need to sit each recruit down and tell them the right way to refer to the University via an informal social media messenger?

McDonald replies, "really? Shaking my head" and now we get into him being too sensitive?

Axe is out of line. Not only does it embarrass our recruiters (the way it was toned in the Tweet is not of a joking manner) and it embarrasses kids who see it and accidentally tweeted incorrectly.

This is something that can be done via text message or private twitter message by Axe, not publically if he really cares about it.

I hate twitter.

Totally agree. How many people have screwed up their credibility, relationships, jobs, etc. because they lack the impulse control not to tweet a thought that suddenly jumped into their pea brain? It seems that you see somebody's twitter screw-up almost every day in the news. Feel pretty much the same way about Facebook. People just seem to line up to make asses out of themselves.
