McDonald vs. Axeman

One specific use case is to use it to report on your activities and moods

All use cases 100% rely on the fact that SOMEONE (or some company) is using it that way.

There are those that glean, and those that publish. Some do both. Some do neither.

Huh? I follow CNN Breaking News, and that account tweets about breaking news. I don't understand your point.

Yeah, that's really not what Twitter is about. I'm a heavy user, and it's a fantastic tool to curate news about your interests (politics, sports, work, music, movies, etc). Most people I know mostly follow various brands, reporters, athletes, and the like. One specific use case is to use it to report on your activities and moods, but I suspect most folks over the age of 21 aren't using it that way by and large.

It's pretty freakin' funny to see people posting on a message board rip Twitter.
I'm the exact same way, my family canceled our newspaper subscription about 2 years ago and since then I have gotten all my news straight from Twitter with no problems.

Ah yes. The same defense that pops up every time George McDonald does this- It's always the other person's fault.

This one isn't his fault (others have been, no argument from me). In this situation, McDonald had to answer the ridiculous tweet in public. If you look at who favorited McDonald's tweet about there always being something negative for the media to find, one of them was 2016 RB Simeon Gatling. Was necessary for him to stand up for the guys he is recruiting.

I mean, everyone parades around #hardnosed and then are surprised when McDonald isn't going to just let things go on Twitter... This staff will be straight up with you whether you like it or not.

you have the wrong idea of exactly what it is. like others have said twitter is what you make of it. as for our coaches using twitter i think it is a great tool, and has many benefits for the program. it's free advertisement for your program. eric white is always tweeting out pictures, or other University related material promoting the school in a favorable manner. it's a good way of subtly shaping kids view of the school. if a prospect has followed Eric White over the past year they now know...

- the movie The Express was based on Ernie Davis a Syracuse grad.
- the honor and tradition 44 means to the program
- McNabb, Freeney, Harrison, Pugh, and Art + Chan Jones are all famous alumni
- how respected our S&C coach is with current NFL alumni
- facility updates, with pictures
- the Cuse app
- a nationally recognized business and broadcast school
- other famous alumni
- countless beautiful pictures of campus
- many other videos of team workouts, and other Syracuse University related material

It's free advertisement where we can control the information that is being sent out. if you can't understand the value of that i don't know what to tell you.

1st rule of marketing: Go to where the people are.

Kids are all over Twitter, FB, Instgram, etc. The same people who are complaining about twitter also rail on the lack of marketing by the athletic department. Admittedly, there is a lot wrong with their strategy - but Twitter is not one of those things.

Twitter is awesome. It's one stop shopping to follow the thoughts or linked articles of those you like to read. You also get the chance to reply to them with your thoughts. Which 'should' be a benefit.

The problem with twitter is that there are way too many crazy (and 'brave') people in this world when they get behind a computer. That problem is compounded when the sportswriter, or coach, or political figure, or actor, etc. feels compelled to respond to the crazies.

There's the manual block feed, but at some point twitter may have to ultimately police the wackos in order to keep the concept as great as it can be.

140 characters is just right - you get much more info than you do from just a headline but not so much that it's takes too long to filter out what you don't want

our dads drank their coffee and read the paper. i drink coffee and read twitter on my phone

It should be called CNN "Breaking News" with what their definition of "breaking news" is

the problem i have with twitter, is i cant make up my mind.

at least when i watch tv, i watch 1 channel at time, be it the news, a show or a game (for the most part).

tonight, my twitter will explode with 500 people all telling me at once who the Giants picked...while i watch as well. granted thats an exteme, it will come in handy on say satuday, but again...500 people will tell me.

it was more fun when i only followed a couple maniacs, reading JR Smith tweet to girls at 4am...'so, you want the pipe?' was a much better use of twitter for me and far more enjoyable.

maybe i should just follow a kardashian and call it a day.

The good thing is that it's so user friendly. I change my mind all the time, unfollow someone, follow someone else. In October, any political figure I followed who was also a Red Sox fan, received a suspension with pay from my follow list.

For the Yankees it gets tough, because you get 1 HR, you have 15 tweets about it. So I just try to drop it to Feinsand or someone like that. Speaking of the Yankees, I had to unfollow Michael Kay, because he is one of those people who can't help himself but respond to every negative comment. Gets awkward to read after awhile.

At the end of the day, as long as you're following the Iron Sheik, everything else can fall into line.

Axe is anything but negative...

Really? Can't tell if that's sarcastic or not.

I tend not to read him because he was not only a poor writer but negative to the point of being mean-spirited.

Can't say he's wrong in this instance, though. I clicked on this thread fully expecting to join the criticism of the Axeman, but instead it looks like yet another incident that gives credence to the claim that McDonald is immature and has a persecution complex.

Axe butchers the english language on a regular basis. He has little room to correct others.

It is certainly hypocritical.

Axe is a worse writer than virtually every poster on this board - with the help of editors, no less.
