ESPNU. Tyus Battle and Matt Moyer are nominated. I think Battle gets a spot. I doubt Moyer does but good luck to both.

This is early isn't it? I thought it used to be announced later in the Spring, even after the High School season, am I making this up?

Just so half the players selected aren't UK signees. :vomit:

Go Battle and Moyer!

I bet Battle just missed. Moyer was too far back.

Battle should make the Jordan game. Ultimately, I think Battle's foot injury last year pushed him down the rankings.

Kentucky gets 4, Duke gets 3 including the top 2, and we, like most of the other teams, get to hope that our signees are under-ranked and have a high ceiling. The biggest hit to our program has been the damage to recruiting from the ncaa hit to our reputation. If not for this whole mess we were on our way to practically having consistent top echelon recruiting. We had been on a great big long upwards trajectory. With all the one and done, college basketball is all about recruiting and nothing else. Even Virginia, a model of player and team dvlp is now in the one and done business. Forget the old sport of college basketball; recruiting one and dones is the name of the game, and teams now have as much stability as an oil spill. It's late at night and the wind is howling. Maybe I'm just being cranky because Battle did not make the cut.

I disagree with you on a couple points here, but the main thing is I think Battle and Moyer is a spectacular class regardless of what Ronald MacDonald says.
Add in PC and we have 3 great fits for our needs. The only player we possibly lost due to reputation hit was Bryant.

Battle clearly got jobbed but the recruiting is fine. Battle is basically a 5 star who would have been ranked in the top 10 if he had played at all his junior year. Moyer is a solid top 40 guy and probably the highest rated recruit out of Ohio. Remember Ennis and Waiters got jobbed out of the McDs also.

Maybe it came down to the just played head to head matchup between Battle and VJ King? King shot the ball better and his team won.

They will face each other a lot in the next year or two as VJ is going to UL. I know who I think is the better player, and that is not a knock on King, who is excellent.

Just go grab yourself a Snicker's bar. ;):)

In my opinion, I don't think the recent NCAA issues has affected our recruiting, at least in terms of blue chipper/Mickey D types. SU typically doesn't really get that level of recruit on a year in and year out basis. For the most part, we get solid high level recruits (top 100-150 v. top 24) into the program and mold them into our system. In JB's 40 years of coaching up on the Hill, I think UK & Duke have gotten more Mickey D types in the past 4 years, than SU has gotten in 40. :)

We are better off if we don't get someone highly ranked, IMO. It sets up the expectation for everyone that this player is one and done. If we want to fight that trend, recruiting A- and B+ players who will stay and be developed is in our best interests. We are currently in an odd position, saying, "We hate this system!" while also saying, "We want in on this system."

Makes me crazy, but that is not a far trip.

Maybe Battle just isn't one of the very top players.

Maybe he got screwed.

Either way, we aren't talking about Melo here.

We have a really good recruiting class, especially if you include PC.

Still very worried about the PG position next year, but we'll have talent.

Unfortunately it didn't really make a difference with Ennis and Mccullogh.

As far as I can remember we have always have a lot of recruiting misses; kids put us on their initial list but end up someplace else. My notion is that we were on a trajectory to have more hits if not for the investigation. Bryant would have made a big difference especially if we are short on fire power next year.

I'll say this -- when we do get somewhat highly recruited players -- it's typical that for whatever reason they drop a bit in ranking during their senior years for whatever reason. Coleman, McCollough, Waiters, MCW (after a huge increase after the Peach Jam), Battle, Malachi, McCollough etc. In their junior years I remember some analysts saying Coleman and McCollough could literally be top 5 in their class and by the time McDs came around they barely made the cut in the top 25, if that. Heck last year Malachi dropped in the 30s - 40s in some rankings at the end.

As for Battle, he will def be in the Jordan -- wouldn't sweat it much although I feel bad for him. As said above, Cuse typically doesn't get those top 10 blue chippers that go to the Kentucky's and Duke's -- what has been hurting are the early departures of guys who would never have been considered one and done years ago. The last quasi "blue chipper" like that we got was probably Donte Green.
