He is defensive. Talked about how he is good friends with Hack and said they tried to run Hack out of town the first two years. Spoke about writers writing poor articles answered questions with questions which is usually a sign of being defensive and insecure. I found him to be very thin skinned almost argumentative. I get the sense he does not take constructive critisism very well.

Not sure the criticism was all that constructive. I would be defensive too if people were calling for my head, for no other reason than the fact they think they are Bill Walsh and can do a better job. I don't think he was argumentative but more annoyed. I would say for 90% of people the reaction your are describing would be theirs as well.

I didn't read anything into that article. It was pretty bland and predictable.

Who are these people?

You're taking it way to far. The exchange was do you ever go back and wish you do something better, and he said yes, just like you guys do.

It's part of the process of any good coach and program. That's why they look at film of the last game played, to self scout and assess their performance. If they did that for just the players and didn't hold themselves accountable that's not going to sit well with the players.

Have you not been reading this board this week?

There's a few hysterics calling for his job, so what, it's not a tidal wave. Most of it is in the What was that, and he needs to get better camp. That's where I'm at, that's not close to calling for his job.

Of course. But hopefully McDonald isn't.

Agreed. Tough skin is a requirement for any coach - but that guy reading this board this week? That would be rough.

I will say that the reporters probably do though, and that's where they come up with some of their questions.

I am not saying he should be fired but 12.9 points a game in conference play is unacceptable. I don't care about any argument that is presented, in today's game with the rules the way they are, that is an amazing stat.

I'm in the same boat. Hackett made me crazy but I was also willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I feel the same way with McDonald. He is a proven recruiter and that is something the program desperately needs to win consistently.

To me, the offense would be performing better if we had 1 really good WR and 1 good WR. All of the play calling issues/What's would be smaller issues.

Why doesn't he have the right to be defensive? He's probably under a sh1tload of stress right now.

So he doesn't take constructive criticism well based on an interview with someone who has no successful coaching knowledge to provide. Now if he went to camps and had conversations with other coaches with a history of success and didn't take constructive criticism very well; then I think that would be an issue. As to that scenario I have no inside knowledge, my guess is you don't either. I would go out on a limb and suggest that he probably is more open to criticism from his peers.

Hackett also had the huge advantage of a 3-year, high-IQ kid in Ryan Nassib leading his offense. Hack had a very simple playbook and Nassib called most of the plays at the line. Hackett did a good job drawing them up and Ryan executed them. That's a big difference with Hack's last season and McD's current season. McD needs a QB with experience and time to do this, hopefully next year will be an improvement.

Hack said he didn't read anything including email until after the season was over.

Tough for George when I'm sure there are a bunch of idiots tweeting at him about how much he sucks.

Particularly when he's trying to sway recruits to come here who read it. :(

What exactly did you want him to respond to the questions he was asked? He sounded fine to me

Knowing Bud he probably skipped a lot of the positive questions that GM had good answers for in the article.

I admit, I like that there is passion out there in the stands and people acting like fanatics. I wish we had more that would come to the games and Lester and McDonald know that it's part of the job to hear it from X amount of people...even the crazy ones.

That said...fans have to realize that while they like the coaches have high expectations, let's also realize that it's nice to hear as a coach some encouragement as well...they are human and some positive reinforcement goes a long way imo. Even with grown men. Coaches also have to know a lot of people just are not happy with pretty much anything and will complain because that's how they go through life. We see it here on this site...people that just come on when bad stuff happens. "See that, damn it I was right...they suck!"

Agreed. And precisely why we need a LIKE button and a DISLIKE button on this site. Some of us need more negative feedback.

you should have sit where i sat last saturday. section 310.. there was about 5 other OC's in my section, turning around at every play and criticizing GM's calls

An OC shoould play to his teams strength. You have a 1,100+ yard rusher from the previous season, who averaged around 5 ypc and got 3 td's. This year, the same rusher averages around 5 ypc, has 11 td's but has over 60 less carries. Instead, he lets his noob QB who cant even get to his 2nd progression, look off the secondary or call any sort of audible throw bubble screens every other play. Translation = 106 ranked offense. George is a rookie, he blew it and he knows it. Most people would be defensive too. Coaches get fired for less.
