One of the very positive things today was the play of MCW. It was great to see the UConn players all over him thinking they could make the freshman cough it up and watch him just handle the pressure easily. Overall, he handled himself very well. That pass to Melo was a thing of beauty.
This game had to boost his confidence, but just as important, JB's confidence in him.

I am tellin' ya...this kid is going to be a flat out superstar.

I love how MCW got in Melo's face after that stupid shot.

One thing i have been certain of all year. I've honestly been more sure of MCW's future than I was of this years potential as a final four or elite 8+ team.

We also haven't reached our apex as a team yet, at least for 40min. Playing so many Dudes, makes it harder to find that magic chemistry like 2010. I've finally realized the inability for another team to gameplan our go to guys is what makes us have that late second weekend potential.

I'm hoping josephs thumb and scoops confidence gives us one big one in the next two. As important as our role players are, we must also be confident in the senior leaders. I'm praying for scoop to get extended minutes while leading us to a blowout with 7-8 assists and 5 lobs on the money. Slow down Scoop u are still the man!

The thread point and my original thought is MCW's future is all league and likely all American after 2 if we keep em that long.

I dont know if I have ever been so confident a "none one and done" kind of player making the NBA as I am of MCW. He just looks like a flat out stud. He did things yesterday I never see college point guards do. For instance, he read the defense, called for the pick from Fab, rubbed his man off the screen (pay attention Scoop) and then dropped a pin point pass to Fab as he rolled to the hoop for a bucket. His vision and passing is incredible. Only player ive seen with that kind of court awareness is Kendall Marshall of UNC and MCW is a bigger, more talented version of him with a better shot.

MCW, as a work in progress, will be fine. Will be better next year, for sure.

But, keep some perspective. Dion and BT were better as frosh; 4 or 5 frosh guards around the Big East showed at least as much potential as MCW and several frosh guards are already playing at a high level.

Next year could easily be MCW's last year in Orange.

If he gets some run in the tourney, and plays like he did yesterday, he'll go into next season with a lot of hype.

If he performs the way he is clearly capable of performing next year, he could be gone.

He's a 6-4 or so (just guessing) PG, who makes great passes, and has a credible 3 pt shot. Guys like that don't grow on trees.

Interesting, I wonder if MCW was forced to play pg like Triche was the year he was a frosh and how that would have worked out 2 years ago if their ages were reversed.

he has very special vision. there are going to be a lot more easy baskets in the half court.

BT was fully developed physically on the day he walked onto the campus and was a much better shooter and driver as a frosh than MCW. He had a great opportunity playing with top perimeter guys (Andy & Wes), and more inside scoring (AO), so BT could be a complimentary player. Obviously, MCW did not come into a similar opportunity to play early, but I doubt MCW (as a frosh) could have matched BT as a frosh.

MCW has the better upside. BT was good day one and has improved -- just not on a steep curve. MCW can add to his shooting and get stronger. Looking for year over year improvement on an Andy Rautins path (with a different skill set and a higher starting point).

I agree but that team might have been better with a passer like MCW that could still hit an open J but I don't want to get off the point as again, I agree with much of what you wrote. I see MCW more like Sherm from freshman to sophomore year.

MCW is going to be a great player. Sure there are some other good young guards in the BE but none of them are 6'-6" pg's. MCW has a good chance to be the best PG in the BE next season IMO. I am pretty excited to see the Triche, MCW Cooney backcourt and feel they will be beter as a unit late next season than this years group of guards has been.

100% agree. I was just going to post something similar, about how I am really looking forward to watching a backcourt with a senior Triche, second year MCW and redshirted Cooney. This group compliments each other very nicely...since Cooney brings the much needed shooter element, MCW is such a smart, heads-up player who can create shots for teammates by manipulating spacing on the floor, and Triche the senior leader with his cool, calm demeanor...more of a do it all type. Really excited to watch those guys lead next year's team.

Kudos to MCW for staying patient this year in regards to his playing time. JB was gushing over him at the Hardwood Club Banquet...saying he's going to be one of the great guards we've had here at SU...I think it's pretty evident that MCW on (most) any other NCAA team would be playing much more. It's really admirable to see him stay patient and enjoy the ride of a special season.

I hope you are right (about next year's guards), but I am in "show me" mode.

BT played really well yesterday and I hope he will continue. Cooney shows a great jump shot in warm-ups -- very impressive and maybe he can just step in. Maybe.

Scoop & Dion, though, have been there most of the time (yes, with exceptions), and Dion is the best talent on the team. We don't really know how MCW & Cooney will compare to, say, Collins of USF or the several frosh guards in the league who actually put up numbers this year. BT needs to lift his game next year.

It's just so nice to know that the keys to the car will be in his hands for the next few years. Kid is smart, has great vision, and a great all-around skill set. Can't wait to see him blossom further. He's already showing flashes.

When I posted that early season practice summary, one of the P-S reporters indicated that the coaching staff views MCW as a high potential NBA prospect.

The reason jb stopped playing him so much is because he would be in the top 20 mock draft picks right now. I chalk another one up for coach b.

Like I said in another thread, hes the best player on this team right now. Interesting that JB isn't playing a guy he considers a high NBA draft choice. Like I said he's keeping him out the NBA this year.

Maybe hes holding him back so he doesn't jump because he knows how close he is with Noel? That would be coaching at its finest!

I know this is 99.99999% unlikely.

LOL Even if true  you would have been the first one crying if he took minutes from Dion.

Not me. Melo wants to make shots, too. He's part of the team, too. He thinks he can make that shot, and he can. The issue is that you don't take that shot at that point in the game. If Mike was on the floor, then it might be OK for him to talk to Fab on the court, but not as he's coming to the bench, to bitch him out like that. You are teammates, not coach & teammate.

Uh you have no clue man. Im very fair when it comes to playing players who deserve pt and sitting those who dont. I have posted many times dion should of been taking out for his selfish and bad plays. Although i love dion this is a team sport and i want syracuse to win and improve their players first.

I could go to the ends of the earth and not find anyone besides you and his mother that really believes MCW is "the best player on this team right now."

That said, MCW may very well have the best SU career or best NBA career of anyone currently on the team.
