my two cents

If Kiyan, and what comes with him, coming to Syracuse next season is the biggest reason that Red will be back next season then I wish that he chose USC. A year or two more of the "coaching" that I am watching is not worth a year or two of nostalgia. No amount of talent or NIL money in the CBB world would make me want another year of this. It is painfully obvious that whatever it is we are doing is not it.
Thats pretty dark. You might be the minority right now but if we start losing to bottomfeeders youll prob be the majority.

Yeah, but I get that but my question is are all of JB's boosters still supporting Autry?
I have no idea i just know that nobody is happy

I do not understand this at all. Can you explain why you and the guys wanted to keep it in house? I wanted us to get the most qualified coach out there to take over. I was not upset at the Red hire, he was one of my favorite players of all time, but keeping it in the family...just to keep it in the family boggles my mind. I would think everyone would want to have the best chance at winning. But I am not a big time booster, so maybe there is just a different mindset of being loyal?
Because going outside isn't a guarantee either. Just look around the country at both football and bball and you will see that. If you do go outside and it fails JW is in huge trouble. The safe move especially after everything that Roy and Jim had done over 50 years was to keep it in the family. If after next season it is a failure JW will have the full support of everyone. It truly was the only decision he to make

This season is lost. Need to play the young guys as many mins as possible to prep for the future. Sorry upperclassmen. The sooner Red realizes this the longer his leash should get.
this is the key spot on. Build for the future

Things I have gathered over the past couple of days from the board...

-JW went with the internal hire and didn't want to upset the boosters that were loyal to Syracuse and JB
-Those same boosters aren't giving Red enough to get the players he wants
-Red can't ask those same boosters for more because of an existing relationship with them as it would be awkward

Like we make this so difficult, our basketball program is truly behind the times.

I’m all in on Red. Do I have some concerns? Probably, but he still hasn’t recruited two full classes yet. Recruiting has looked positive. Outside of JJ, the portal has been a total disaster. I’m hoping Kline can help us out with the portal. I’m assuming he was hired after the last portal class came together. The one outside coach that I would have been happy with was Shaka Smart. He was just ok at TEXAS, but he’s killing it at Marquette. He was great at VCU.

kiyan, sadiq, choppa, donnie and senior JJ is a pretty strong nucleus to start from.

Im hoping Red can pull it out. The coaching things i see are lack of mental toughness and just plain old hard work on defense. Defense sucks cause its the thing that doesnt give u true basketball cred. Its hard and crappy but ifu do it righ, it makes all the difference in the world. We should only w ork on defense till thry get it down. Old School.

None of know at this point if Red is a good coach or not. Last year he took a group of difficult kids and got us to 20 wins. But is it because of good coaching or talent. The fact is that last year's team was significantly better more talented than this year's team. It's actually not even close. Nobody on this year's team is on the same planet as Judah. Nobody on this year's team plays as good a D and hustles as Brown did. And we don't have anyone close to Copeland from a pure talent standpoint.

Take last years starting 5 and play them against this year's starting 5 ten times and this year's team wouldn't come within 10 points in any of the games. We are a young team lacking in talent and depth. Our roster is a complete miss.
Red has to go with the kids who are going to return. If after the first 3 ACC games, we have not pulled a miracle Red has to focus on next year. His job depends on it.

The thing i forgot and i lesrned this years ago but Fran says it too, You either teach it that way or u allow it to happen. Either way its your fault.

Roster management is putrid. Missing out on a PG I get, sort of.

What I don't understand is the love affair with Eddie. We aren't good enough to put him in the role he is best suited for - a 3rd option with some size. I think he has been fine and not really a shot at him just a question of where we are allocating resources.
our pg is so bad we cant get eddie the ball

he doesnt get the ball enugh to even do anything

this years talent is better, much better

its just red is blind about the point guard albatross around this teams neck and its killing the squad

Did anybody ever think that that the inability to bring in the point guard Adrian wanted wasn't his failure but ours? We are the reason we didn't get what's his name, not the coach. I'm so sick and tired of hearing these rumblings of him being fired by all these brilliant basketball minds on this board after one season and a few games. He is in the process of changing the way we play to exactly what everybody wanted. It hasn't taken yet, that's for sure. So, we should fire him now? He is a victim of following a legend and needs time and our support. I say this as the one, and probably only one, that was clamoring for GMac to be our coach. I'm all in on Autry...right now.
Most of the people that have an issue with Red are calling out problems that are completely under his control. This is year 2 in the portal era. Relying on a Leffew commitment is no excuse; Red is the one putting that bench player in a starting role and leaving him out there most of the time. Red is the one keeping Moore on the bench. Red is the one entertaining Bell's nonsense and rewarding poor play and lack of hustle with extended minutes.

Sorry, but none of the excuses justify what is plain for everyone to see. It's clear that we are going to need an overwhelming talent advantage to overcome the coaching and team management. As someone that loves Red (really, I do) it hurts me to think that way, but it's better than being in denial. Ripping off the bandaid is better for everyone.

Never ceases to amaze me at how arrogant fans can be. You honestly believe you would do a better job managing and coaching this team according to what you wrote. Who ever said he “ relied” on a Leffew commitment? He tried to get him along With a few different point guards. He ended up with what he got and the kid has struggled out of the gate. Your statement of us needing an overwhelming talent advantage to overcome his coaching after a year and a few games and out of the other side of your mouth saying you love him??? I have no words.

Saturday will tell us more.

ND has Shrewsberry in his 2nd year after their long time coach bounced awkwardly. Little bit more experience than Autry but not much. Also Burton out just like JJ

It’s Quad 2.

fun fact about the net. Winning at Tennessee counts the same as winning at DePaul right now. Both Quad 1.

Didn’t we land Lampkin very early? I believe that’s why there wasnt much center portal theory crafting
He committed early (April 2nd), or at least we thought he did, then late (mid May.)
I assume going forward that we'll be getting nil agreements signed expeditiously. He dragged it out somehow until the portal was picked over. Lesson learned.

No its not even close. The talent on this year's team is the frosh

PG - last year...judah is waaaaaaaaaaay better than carlos...its not even funny...BUUUT judah didnt do the job of pg very well. so even though judah is better...last years team really missed having an actual point guard, too.
SG - this year - by far...JJ is better and moore is better than jj of last year
SF - same - bell is bell...even though hes been slumping this year
PF - Freeman is WAAAAAAAY better than Taylor...its not even close.
C - I think lampkin is better than brown...and has been hobbled by injuries...brown is better than a injured lampkin, no doubt, but if lampkin is healthy he is way better than maliq...

this years team is better at 3 positions, worse at 1 and a wash at 1...

bench - this year is better - the rotation was 6 players by the end of the season...now there are many more options. Q was a good bench player for last years team...

bench: benny, carey, hima, Q, naheem, cuffe OR davis, moore, taylor, naheem, cuffe, petar, westry

for me its clearly this years bench that is way better...and it not close...cuffe is better, moore is the best of both benches...i mean the team finished last year with no bench basically and a 6 man roation...

the season isnt over

westry looked quick to me...rusty but i think he will be the PG for this year after he gets his legs...and he is way better than carlos...

i get it that people miss judah...but once red finally stops playing carlos...people will see that this team is better than it has been thus far...forcing everthing through him has been the root cause of everything bad this year imo

You went to war with me a couple weeks ago over some of my comments which have become more and more on point with each passing game. Facing the truth is tough and you're not ready. Can't really blame you.

Agree. We just have to look at our football team to see the issues we have had going outside after Paul Pasqualoni, an inside hire after Coach Mac. Marrone, an inside hire, had ok success but again as we’ve seen there are no guarantees.

Agree with Cusefan0307, although maybe not the ONLY time I've agreed... maybe. This is a good post, and I am aligned with essentially all of it.

Honestly, I'm intrigued with the rest of the year not because we have a shot to make the tourney, but just to see the coaching job. I also expect to win a game we are strong underdogs in. Unfortunately the JJ injury makes it quite a bit more challenging and definitely an "excuse" to latch on to, but adversity is life.

Said a few times-- Freeman and Moore should be getting 30' a night. With JJ out, and Carlos struggling mightily, there is legitimately no explanation for it not to happen (unless the obvious injury, fouling out).
