I think it was probably plan B for the big east, given the chance schools like Boise wouldn't come to the BE.

I heard New Mexico and Tulane refused to be in any conference with Rutgers.

...since the BE is pirating schools from those conferences...seems unlikely those conferences want to form an association with the BE...mean small east and BIG west

The BE is under the mistaken belief that it is still viable as a football conference. The only thing it's going to accomplish is to water down the basketball league.
