Miami cancels this week's game at Arkansas St

That would have been an interesting game. Ark State took Nebraska to the final play in Lincoln. Getting the Canes to come to their house... unfortunate.

Miami claims they wouldn't be able to easily return home after the game. Weak excuse.

If there was no Harvey, the Arkansas State AD's words would have been more colorful. But there's nothing he can do. I guess if there's no Harvey, maybe Miami takes the trip on that Friday night.

Ark State's schedule killed any chance of re-scheduling. They play a regular season game on Dec 2, so out goes any chance of a contingent game (if Miami doesn't win the Coastal).

Not weak at all. Depending upon the severity of the storm, the airports in S Florida could be out of commission for an extended period. Besides which, many of the 'Canes are from the area, and would want to be present to help their families.

Another extreme weather event in barely a month. Strange. Wonder what could be causing this.
I'm not one of the stooges who thinks global warming is a hoax, but we were due. We haven't had a major hurricane make landfall since 2005 (Wilma).

Maybe. But we barely missed a Cat 3 last October (Mathew). And I don't think they're too happy with 51" of rain in Texas. [Add: Obviously, since storms are fueled by heat, they're getting bigger and more powerful, as are forest fires and droughts]. I hear you. But after a while, it's pretty hard to ignore the overall problem.

Ike, Sandy & Irene all beg to differ.

Sandy wasn't a hurricane.

Settle down boys, I never said Harvey wasn't a major. It was. This is prior to this year.

Ok you got me on Hurricane Sandy as it was predominately referred to as "Superstorm Sandy" But it made landfall as a Cat 2
Irene- landfall as a Cat 1
Ike- landfall as a Cat 2

Also in no way am I downplaying the devastating effects that occurred because of these and other storms.

But, my point (which you aren't getting) is that yes Hurricane's have made landfall but no major (Cat 3+) have made landfall in the US while they were a Cat 3+. Didn't think I would have to explain it.

No Major Hurricane Has Made Landfall In the U.S. In More Than 9 Years -- and That's a New Record from 2015

Add in the Lake Ontario situation this year into the mix

i think its weak too. They actually took heat for booking @ Ark st. And it would have worked out. They could have even played on fri night or early sat and bused back as the storm isnt supposed to hit til after midnight sat. Huge letdown for ark st.

'Bus back... 17 hours nonstop.

Yea, i know, it is what it is. Safer mode of travel, if they played Friday night, could probably sneak back in via air. One Florida team did move the game to friday night and all seems good logistically.

Could they bus back, if they're evacuating south florida? Even if they don't evacuate specifically where the university is, do you cut it that close with a cat 4/5 bearing down?
