Miami Post Game

I’m upset the sports team from my geographic acre lost to the sports team from the Florida geoGraphic area. I sit back and think what can I do about this? How can I control this? Does it matter? To Syracuse University it does. To me, and many of us..nope.

Going to be a long bus ride back to Syracuse…
Wildly under appreciated comment, well done!

First, we need to give Red a contract extension so he doesn't feel too much pressure that impacts his ability to make such genius in game decisions.
Second, make sure we don't lose Carlos to the portal. This guy is nails.
Third, make sure we keep our defensive core of JJ Starling and Chris Bell together.

Its gonna be a good year next year. I can feel it.

Red's played the good cop his whole career. He is an excellent recruiter. The kids like him but do they respect him. Red is what he is and won't change. It's not a bad thing but it's not what's needed for this group.
His personality might work on a seasoned team. Not on this team.
This team lacks talent. We don't have shooters, we don't have kids that can create on their own. We are an extremely challenged offensive team. As poor as we are on offense we are actually worse on Defense. Slow and weak at almost every position on the floor. Technique is really bad. Team defense is non existent and we don't have a single player that can defend the paint. We don't have a single player that can lock down an opponent.
WE LACK TALENT.
In addition to these issues we have an even bigger one. An issue which no team that I have ever followed can win without. Even teams with all star talent fail without it.
No, it's not good coaching. Teams with it, and with talent win with poor coaching. We recently witnessed it with one of Dinos teams.
That something is leadership.
Leadership is the single most important thing winning Teams have. Leadership can overcome bad coaching. It can raise average talent to succeed. It is the single most important ingredient.
When you combine leadership with talent and good coaching you win 10 games in your first season as a head coach.
You upset Nebraska and Clemson.
You have a bunch of " Runts" make a final four.
This year's basketball team doesn't have a leader. Not one. There isn't one guy on this team that is a true leader. No Gmac, No Devo, No Eric, No Laquint, No Kyle.
No talent, No leadership.
It's a bad combination and the result is a losing team. To their credit they haven't turned on each other.
But is that because they are good teammates, or is it because they lack heart, lack dedication and just don't care.
Going forward I dont see a single player that we have that can grow into that leader. Not one.
Hopefully someone steps up next year because until we have leadership at the player level nothing else matters.

That does not sound like excellent recruiting

Everyone is too negative. Let’s think of the positives.

We didn’t give up 100?

Seriously though. Wake me up with this guy is gone. It’s not worth the analysis anymore. He’s not a good coach and the evaluation of the roster was an all time disaster. I don’t believe he can turn this program around.
The line I bolded above ^. You hit the nail on the head. I am done analyzing this situation.

But hey, we are a poor university and have no NIL support is what officials of the hill are saying on local radio etc. Gotta love it when the tides turn towards lack of fan financial support as the reason for this.

Now I will say, I have been starting to dive into men’s lax. I don’t know too much about the sport but I am learning and watching an elite Cuse team while doing so. I recommend it.

I have read off and on this year that Kyle Cuffe has developed into a true leader on the team.
However, when you are #10 on the bench and rarely play significant minutes, I don’t really see how that helps the on court product.
Watch him sometimes when he plays, he communicates a great deal with his teammates.
And he is the one person, with Taylor, who does take defense seriously.
Ideally, one of the starters would be that leader.

JJ for instance.

You can’t have it both ways.

You can’t say Red is an excellent recruiter, then state we literally stink every which way.

This is not the same situation as 10 years ago. The whole team has been recruited by Red, and except for Bell, all as SU’s head coach.

Stop giving him passes. He has stunk out loud as a head coach - even last year’s 20 wins was a facade.

Does it matter

If we don't make the ACC tournament and still keep Red for another year, it will be a big national story and will inflict severe damage on the Syracuse basketball brand. Additionally, it will communicate loudly to possible future coaching candidates the lack of commitment to excellence at Syracuse University, and this will be a less appealing job than it would have 2-3 years ago. I don't think making the ACC tournament is the standard we should be striving for - but it would avoid the worst possibly media scrutiny.

We're going to make it, but...I'll be honest, I've been borderline rooting against Syracuse hoping they would not make the ACC tournament. Because I couldn't see any viable way to keep Red as coach if that happened - and if they did keep him, it would be a clear sign to me to just stop paying any attention to Syracuse basketball because the University had thrown in the towel.
