Mike’s Mailbox: Which Syracuse players would have benefited from a redshirt year?

BJ and Southy are exhibits 1A & 1B of guys who needed a RS year.

Sadly, BJ got his after transferring, and it worked the expected wonders for him.

Imagine a post-Senior season year from Southerland??
(Rather than his mostly wasted Frosh year - 13 games, 97 total minutes played)
Damn. That woulda been awesome.

Means nothing, but I disagree on Southerland. Yes, redshirt in a vacuum, but remember, ... he prepped at Notre Dame. He did not play a lot early because we had Scoop, Triche and Rautins. And we were awesome.

If Southerland had redshirted, he would have been a month shy of 25 when he played his final game at SU.

IMO it’s a weird question because you could answer that - every player would potentially benefit themselves and the program by taking a redshirt. That being said, BJ Johnson is an obvious choice. We all saw how that worked out.
