Mike Francesa on Dino Babers

I don't. I live 1,000 milea away. A person that gets paid to talk about sports should be more familiar with sports. National sports figures with a responsibility to know a wider variety know more than he does about the only P5 college football team in his own state.
No argument on the sports knowledge bit. I still have to laugh though that he's making bank to be a crusty oblivious curmudgeon who just shoots his mouth off about anything.
Maybe you are outside of the geographic bubble, I would argue that's obsolete. It's all about information, and you are definitely at the epicenter of the Cuse information bubble.

Babers could stop by his studio when they are in New York to play Notre Dame.

But people that I talk to here that don't get paid to know anything about sports with no connection to SU know who Dino is.

This just goes to show you how far off the National radar Syracuse and Dino are.
No it doesn't at all. MF is going senile. Evidence...

Cmon after beating Clemson last year Dino/Syracuse aren’t completely off the map.
I love Mike but that is just embarrassing for the guy.
I don’t know that he would remember the name of the coach just because of that.

Now if we backed it up with something, and he didn’t know, that’s bad. It’s morning surprising.

I think his take on Watson, I didn’t listen fwiw, was that I know he loved him in college, that he wouldn’t be a good pro, that Dabo told everyone he would, and Mike likely changes his mind because of last years success and Dabo.

If you have listened to Francesca long enough, and I know you have, he gives three types of answers:

1. He loves to show-off his in-depth knowledge of a topic whenever given the opportunity. You see this most often in his interviews when he loves to interject if he feels his analysis will be well-received by the interviewee.

2. Sound bites when he doesn't really know the topic that well but feels like the question requires a response.

3. What he said about Babers.

At the end of the day, his show may be national now but, at heart, it is still a NY sports show and NY is a pro town, not a college town, so I would not have expected an in-depth answer as college football is not in his wheelhouse.

However, I would have expected at least a sound-bite answer given that our profile has been increasing to the point where we are getting mentions on Gameday and the other national college football shows.

I feel like you're making my point for me here. People that you interact with on a Syracuse fan internet message board know who Dino is...

...Where does the surprise part come in?

College football in general is off the radar places like NYC and Boston. But thats really about it its damn popular just about anywhere else. Your average guy who wants to talk about his fantasy football team and whether Eli Manning should be brought back next year likely couldn't carry a conversation about the football playoffs and name a team other than Alabama who is likely to make it. But if you find a CFB fan in NYC Syracuse isn't that far off their radar they can be from somewhere else and a Michigan fan but they'd know we beat Clemson and have a good running QB and coach. I don't think we are irrelevant in CFB circles and thats with it being eons since we were ranked.

The USC talk re Dino in another thread made me wonder if that job is about to get really bad if the Lambs win the super bowl or simply just a couple playoff games. That market could very quickly stop caring about college football. Very quickly. USC attendance would have nosedived after the Carroll era if there had been an NFL team in that city IMO.

Do you think I only interact with people on this message board? I'm not holed up in my mom's basement. I interact with mostly Tennesseans, Floridians, etc. The ones that watch college football know who Babers is despite most of them not being fans of ACC schools.

Why do people listen to this guy ... he sounds like someone you'd strike up a short conversation with on the NYC subway and forget as soon as you got off the car.

My bad dude. I honestly thought by 'here' you meant the virtual here and not folks around town, etc. (Maybe I'm the one stuck in mom's basement?)

And to reiterate, no dispute with you about 's knowledge or lack thereof, pretty bad that's what he's got.

**edit... you talk to actual, real people? Like in real life? No, I never thought of that.

If Francesa doesn't know about him, we don't need to worry about him leaving us anytime soon.

At least he stayed awake in this instance.

Soooo glad maddog took a shot and made it big with national satellite radio. Takes alot more talent to do a national show as dog does MF is a pompus DB . Met him and parcells one time and MF was 10x more arrogant than BP.

No it doesn't, it shows all MF can talk about is NYC pro sports. That's easy on NY. Its pathetic that he doesn't know the name of the coach for the state's only P5 team.

Sooooo...driving up for parents weekend and the first topic on The show today at 3 PM?

Dino Babers.

Mike pretended he could not understand what Jason from Syracuse was saying and that was why it appeared he did not know who Babers was.

He knows he should have known who Babers was.

Does this mean no one is going to hire him away from us and we never have to talk about it ever again?

Good.

See above. The answer is yes.
