We all knew Hop would be a NBA coach before Hurley

Yup. So much less time to actually gameplan/coach. You not only have to recruit high school kids, but you now also have to recruit the transfer portal and basically recruit your own players back every year. It has to be beyond exhausting.
Why go back to college, was my point. Why what?
Becoming an NBA assistant is what I predicted would happen when being let go from Washington was imminent.
Like ADs with coaches? Not to mention the fiasco of dealing with all of the new age/bornepimpsplayers pitching their one night stand commitment and ensuing goods to the highest $$$ entity/bidder.
We grow best with sunshineMy man went 35 years without sunshine and decided that was enough. We all change and grow.
This is 3rd hand, but Wayne Morgan allegedly say that Hopkins was the blackest white guy he ever met.It seems most have a personal Hop story. Hop was the guest speaker at my HS's end of year sports banquet my sophomore year. He golfed before and clearly enjoyed a few drinks. He was lubed up pretty good and very entertaining and funny when he spoke.
My bad, as pointed out above, I misinterpreted what you were responding about. Why go back to college, was my point.

Working my sources...Hoping to get in touch with him.Wow
I’m still hopeful that all roads will lead him back to SU.Always felt like the NBA would be a great path for him, post-Washington, to get back into coaching.
Is that you Mike?I’m still hopeful that all roads will lead him back to SU.
I actually think Mike would make one heck of a Cuse GM should Kline depart. That said, I doubt he would take the role, nor could we afford him. We can dream though.I’m still hopeful that all roads will lead him back to SU.

Why? He has proven he is not a great coach, even with great talent.I’m still hopeful that all roads will lead him back to SU.
Most new coaches need time to figure out how to win, and even years in, winning isn’t easy. Over the past 10 to 15 years, the great experienced Coach K and Coach Calipari have assembled some of the greatest talent year after year and fell very short in the tournament. Why? He has proven he is not a great coach, even with great talent.
History says that us Polyanna thinking. The HCFB experience should embolden everyone to be open to the reality that we are far more likely to find a great coach in the greater coaching universe than from the limited coaches with SU pedigrees. Most new coaches need time to figure out how to win, and even years in, winning isn’t easy. The several years of coaching at Washington, assistant coach on an NBA team, and now as head of player development for the Pelicans, should help him if he decides to coach at the collegiate level again.
Unlike the “family” guys who have returned to SU in some capacity, Hop would be coming back with a wealth of experience, something we have not had and most on this board have moaned about. Jason Hart is the only former SU player with somewhat comparable credentials.
My guy is ready.
I agree in principle, going outside the Syracuse coaching tree is not a bad idea. At least a national search should be done if they fire Red.History says that us Polyanna thinking.
