He is 2-5 at Washington State.

His offense has rushed for less than 300 yards net - for the season.

He is averaging about 360 yards total offense per game.

Once he upgrades the talent - he will - the stats will change.

Its his 1st year perhaps we should give it a year or two to see where he is at.

He took over by far the worst team in a very strong conference that is having a very strong year. He's going to get as much rope there as he needs.

year 3, he will have a winning record.

book it.

i love how quickly people come to verdicts anytime anyone does anything different

WSU could've hired someone to go prostyle in obscurity for the next ten years without you ever noticing.

barrel's always talking about the board reaction to chip kelly at oregon his first game

I know I'm going to hate myself for this post, but I'm only doing it because I know OPA will get a kick out of it...

Career Winning %

Mike Leach- .641% overall
Paul Pasqualoni- .640% at Syracuse

One guy is a genius, the other got fired from his previous head coaching job...

There is only one verdict to render - without good players even the best and most creative scheme can't succeed.

I have little doubt that Mike Leach will do very well at WSU - once he gets good players on campus.

And that's the way it is with all coaches - except perhaps, maybe, to a certain extent, for Bill Snyder - in my mind, the best college football coach in our generation.

1 brought a football program out of the basement.
1 put a football program 5 steps down the basement stairs.

apples and (syracuse) oranges.

Pacific NW has good HS football, plus if he can get into California successfully, he could do some damage.

If Vick Goes to Cuse instead of VT, Pasqualoni would still be on the sidelines.

and mike vick would have learned valuable life lessons like how to treat a dog and personal finance 101 if he went to Syracuse.

Don't get me wrong..I like Mike Leach and I think he will eventually be successful at Wash State...

However, Texas Tech wasn't a basement dweller when he took over...
9-3 the last year in the old SWC and a bowl win in 1995 then
four winning seasons in the Big XII and two bowls games in those four years before Leach took over.. thats not a basement dweller...

And as much as PP is bashed on here for his last three years...he's not the one to blame for the program running into the ground...lots of dirty hands in the 80's and 90's that got us there...

you are 100% correct. I am really surprised that TT was as good as they were for a long time. Basically a perennial 7-9 win team. for the last 20 years.

even good players have a learning curve with a radically new offense.

it happens at schools that have lots of talent already

if they're much better next year, will you think that it's because of the players he recruited in one year?

Yes, and if it is all players with no relation to system/coaching, etc. then can we please go hire Ron Zook? We'll be national champions in 4 years.

You're getting far too binary with this stuff.

Yes, talent is important.

So is coaching.

Great talent can make average coaches look good.

Yup. Do people remember our defense pre-Shafer? I guess we just stocked up on NFL-ready talent.

We could use a coach that pisses intensity.

Does anyone remember our defense the year before Grob?

Wyche
LaCasse
TJax
Drame
Brown
K. Smith
J. McClain
Pruitt
Mackey
Ferri
Etc.

Ranked about 100.

Coaching I think matters most in football than any other sport. In basketball you can have a superstar that can carry a mediocre squad and coach. Case in point San francisco 49ers 2010 6-10, Enter Jim harbaugh 13-3, Alex Smith goes from collossol bust to competent quarterback and virtually all the same players.

My point exactly.

Leach is extremely good at what he does, much like the dude in wv. Add to that if he can get some talent out of California which has loads of it, he will be a tough game for all the PAC 12/14/16. That doesn't say he will be a 10 win guy though.
