To further date myself, mine was William (eFg). Buckley. The content was interesting, but his delivery put many to sleep.

As I recall, our speaker in 1977 was supposed to be Kurt Waldheim, former Secretary-general of the UN. However, he was suffering disgrace for his hidden Nazi ties, so in stepped NYS Governor Hugh Carey. Good switch, since a couple of years later he dropped us a bag of state money to build the Carrier Dome.

Class of 1993 so Lyons was our speaker. My understanding is we were supposed to have Arthur Ashe but he passed away from AIDS and Lyons was the replacement choice. Wasn’t the most inspiring speech IIRC - general theme was “Your parents messed up the world, you better go fix it.”

The poor valedictorian delivered a speech where her main metaphor was finding happiness inside your box. Many a snicker from the students - I don’t think she realized why.

At the rehearsal, I sat next to a girl I had a crush on my frosh year. I later married the best girl in the world, SU Masters '75 so it all worked out very well, as most of my life has.

I saw a football NC and a basketball NC and have Ernie's and JB's signatures. So, not too bad on the sports side.
