Mike Woodson

AGAIN, I do not want to hire Mike Woodson. I would not be surprised if Carmelo Anthony wants his son coached by him over Red Autry. That is all
If that is the case—and there’s no way it is—then we should move on without the Anthony’s. Wildhack would never hire Woodson and I don’t believe Melo would force him on us.

I'd take him he'll be out when Kiyan leaves and easily could be the best option short term.

Why the hell are the hot mid major coaches taking this job over the other open ones we don't pay that well?
This is a myth.

I dunno this after that no he said what??

Sorry, can't put words together after reading...

Indiana has been getting blownout, very similar to SU except they are 13-5 and chanting Fire Woodson.

Down 30 in the first half at home to Illinois.

I listened to the Field of 68 pod, they have discipline issues, In Atlantis guys at blackjack tables at 1 am before an 11 am tip, guys photod in a bar night before a game, suspensions, etc.

Omar Ballou is out of shape, cant defend. Got a $mill and doesnt care.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out there.

No. I don't care how big your NIL budget is, how highly-touted your freshman are or how much Carmelo likes you, this offensive philosophy is not a blueprint for winning basketball in 2025:

Rumors are that Woodson or IU will be announcing that he is stepping down at the end of the season.

Ben McCollum will be the hot name but as I said in a another thread recently, they should go for Brad Brownell (Indiana native).

This is like arguing that Milwaukee's Best Light is better than Keystone Light. Um OK. I'll pass on both thanks.

I love the bench coach argument. Juwan Howard needed Phil Martelli and it didn't really work. Howard had some initial success and then tanked.
Too bad Greenberg must be making too much at ESPN.
But back to this notion, if you need an experienced bench coach to guide you and hold your hand, your not the man for the job and the job is too big for you. That's the reality. If your getting paid Millions you shouldn't need this.

Is this Red’s new bench coach assistant?????
Yes, this is exactly what I’m thinking. Not to be Red’s replacement, but to be a bench coach replacing someone like Allen Griffin.

It would be a very typical Syracuse thing to do if IU is paying Woodson salary next year

Why do people want to trot our retreads from other programs and think that will save the program?

There are plenty of coaches out there who don't need their hand held. Autry is 52 and has been in the game since he was a kid. If he doesn't have it now, he's not going to.

I'm not defending the suggestion.

But I'm guessing the logic is because Carmelo is close to Woodson from Anthony's NBA career [so much so that Kiyan was in play for IU]. So, because of that, this might be a soft landing spot.

For the record, Woodson's getting canned with a .611 winning percentage at IU.

Red's winning percentage is .545, and sinking.

Haven't looked it up but I think IU made 2 tournament appearances in those 4 years.

Why would the HC of IU become a bench coach at SU? He is not rehabbing is image off a scandal.

Why would IU pay him a salary if he takes another job?

Woodson has no place with a serious college program. Maybe an in-name-only "special assistant" job if Melo is tying Kiyan to him, but nothing more.

As I understand it, Melo and Woodson are cool with each other, but I don't see any evidence that the relationship is so close that Melo would try to do him a solid like this (or that Woodson would be interested).

Why is that? Is there some scandal in his past that I'm not remembering?
Because he has a ton of NBA experience. If you can't get Greenberg, he seems like a good choice and has been Melo's coach.

Correct. It wasn’t the disastrous hire it seemed to be at the time of his hiring but ultimately not good enough for a long run there either.

I’m sure he would be fine as a veteran assistant.
