Minny Injury Problems

That's what we thought a few years ago when Cincy lost their QB and we all know how that turned out.

Which time, when we whipped them out there, or they won here last year?

I am never happy when a college kid loses playing time to an injury... however we will take whatever help we can get. I wish them a quick recovery after our game.;)

Gray being out is a huge advantage for us-trust me on that.

And I'm glad we'll have a little film on the replacement QB to prepare heading into this Saturday's game.

i do hate asterisk wins though.

Screw astericks--we certainly have our share of injuries, so I don't feel bad for any of our opponents facing the same. I never, never root for a player to get injured, but if these kids are out and it gives us an advantage, I'm not going to feel sorry for them on Saturday.

i definitely her you. But I hate when someone has an excuse for their loss. It's part of the game, but I know we'll hear at least 15 times how their starters are out... on national television.

Or more likely, we'll hear about it in 15 posts on this forum rationalizing away the victory if we win. :noidea:

our fans are fickle, but i am sure this is the same with all fan bases.

When cincy lost Collaros two years ago, we beat them 31-7 out there.

Minnesota's backup is the real deal...watched him play last year and there was no drop off..He came in against USC last year as a true freshman and almost pulled that game out for them...

Isn't that guy the starter now?

No. Marques Gray is the starter. He's very athletic--played WR and returned kicks in the game against us in 2009. He is a dual threat [actually a much better runner, struggles with his accuracy as a passer]. He ostensibly weighs 248 pounds--doesn't look it at all--looks more like an athletic 6-4 225 pound kid, so if he's really that size...

His replacement is a different kind of player--better passer than runner by far. More of a traditional QB--we're better off playing against him than Gray, given that we traditionally struggle to defend QBs who can run and do damage.

Not suggesting that the 2nd string guy isn't quality, but in the first two games Minnesota played, Gray was their leading rusher [he got passed this last game after getting hurt]. His absence is HUGE for us. That they are also down a starting CB is big.

He's filling in for Gray this week...He's 6'6" 240, big boy... Max Shortell is his name

Last year Munchie Legeaux beat SU after Collaros was hurt. Munchie stunk the week before against Rutgers. Also I believe UConn played their 2nd and 3rd string QB's against SU and won. Not saying its a bad thing for SU that their starter is out, just that it hasn't mattered in the past at times.

Doug and SU can't lose this game. There are no excuses for a loss next week!

Sure they can. There's another team across from that wants to win.

Plenty of things could happen that are entirely out of their control.

Looks like it's a pick 'em game, so lighten up.

If this team has "turned the corner" like so many proclaim then you can't lose to an equal team or maybe a lesser team with a back-up QB and Center. Ya just can't. No excuses. Win the game! No excuses!

But does Minny have a Munchie?

To me it makes it harder to prepare not knowing that much about the backup and I agree with you, this may turn out better for Minnesota because who knows if they have a back up like Cincy did as well when they lost their starting QB the year they went undefeated.
