Minor non-conference schedule info

How sure are we that this is Frazier's fault. Reading this thread, you'd think he was sitting at a desk collecting a paycheck and screening his calls. Does anyone know for sure that he is?
Not the first time he's had scheduling problems (among other issues)...

On January 8, 2008, Herman Frazier was fired from his position as athletic director at the University of Hawaii following heavy criticism from the fans and media of the State of Hawaii. On March 3, 2007, he was loudly booed by the crowd following the final home game of the University of Hawaii's head basketball coach Riley Wallace.[10][11] Frazier is widely viewed as having forced Wallace to resign by including a "no-extension" clause in his final contract. However, Wallace has accepted responsibility by saying, "The bottom line is Riley Wallace signed the contract."[12] Frazier was also criticized by both the media and public for ongoing delays and a perceived lack of integrity in finalizing the full 2007 Hawaii Warriors football team schedule. Frazier admitted that he may have miscalculated in regards to the schedule but stands by his record at Hawaii citing, in part, his balancing of the athletics budget. He inherited a $2.5 million deficit from his predecessor.[11][13][14][15] (Note: It was discovered after Frasier left that the so-called "balanced budget" left the athletic department with an even greater debt hovering around $6 million even after the windfall from the Sugar Bowl.) Finally, Frazier also received the brunt of the blame for then UH football coach, June Jones, leaving the University for Southern Methodist University.[3][4]

Linked the wiki paragraph since it sums up a few problems, but you could easily google for more issues/sources.

all I needed to know about Frazier's competence was the Wagner fiasco. "It counts because I asked them and they said it counted"

However, the only person to blame here is Dr Gross - he has to provide direction and require performance metrics.

I think this right here is the reason most of us are concerned. I mean if I was him and we "allegedly" have our schedule complete for the next 2 seasons I would be finding a way to leak that out just to make myself look better. I really doubt that's the case at all. Something needs to be done with this, and it should have been last season. Having someone scheduling better be someone who knows what the hell is going on because of the impact it has on the program. We need to get this figured out once and for all, and if takes someone else to get the job done so be it

Aren't you the one who suggested moving the BC series to baseball stadiums?

SU is in a tough spot. If we schedule crappy teams, fans complain and don't come to the Dome. Big name teams may not want to come here anymore. If any of you have data that proves otherwise, outside of Herm Frazier sucks at his job, I'd love to hear it. In the last 6-7 years we've had Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, NW, PSU here from the Big 10. Maybe they don't want to come back anytime soon. I'd love to get a home and home with Michigan State or Wisconsin or even Indiana, but who knows if they want to come.

If it makes everyone feel better, then fire him and get a new scheduler. But if the new guy runs into the same problems, don't be shocked.

Also keep in mind that by joining the ACC, we lost scheduled OOC games with BC, GT.

Yeah, I'm troubled that we seem to have no one lined up short term, but we just changed conferences. You have to admit, we have played outstanding OOC schedules for years now, but for a couple years when Dougie was trying to get us out of the toilet and cancelled a couple match ups. I'm sure we'll work this out. We don't need 2 BCS opponents every year, we just need 1 good one.

I'd throw teams like Oregon State, Washington State, Utah, etc...into Group 1 when all else fails. I'd throw USAFA into Group 2 but only if Army/Navy said no. USAFA game could also be considered a good place for the traveling SU fan. Colorado (Boulder) is very undervalued right now and I could see a 2 game series with them in my Group 1.

Realistically the only way I see Cuse playing the West Coast is if we are playing a P5 Big Boy team in Group 1.

Why the heck would we play any of those schools?

Heck, gimme Buffalo, Colgate, Army, and some crappy MAC or CUSA. Boeheim and FSU Lou are right.

Holy Jump to Conclusions

Bay it was hypothetical...and was a worse case scenario for Group 1. You first hunt for a P5 Big Boy team and use the Basketball team as leverage if need be.

Yup...no leaks mean nothing concrete yet...as maybe just handshakes and no paper. I'm very suspicious of that. We could be delivered a real Sandwich the next few seasons.

Bottomline the schedule delays and constant uncertainty is ridiculous. If Frazier cant handle the job (based on his track record he probably can't) get someone in there who can.

A crazy one ;)- Washington State? Utah? We play right now two top 5 teams. Need wins. Not 2500 mile flights.

Not sure hoops is leverage. Sounds nice, but the payday isn't really there, and we play Duke, UNC, Pitt, etc as is (hopefully UConn lurker saw that and cried).

If our sked was complete, we would have heard about the games from our non-conference opponents. I don't trust Frazier.

Schools are always looking for big OOC games for TV purposes...it applies to hoops too. It just might work to lure a Big Boy team if a straight 1/1 or 1/1/1 proposal doesn't sell.

Sadly we are looking at the spectre of selling ourselves like 2012 for a 1 and done. I've never seen it like this in 40 years (lack of known future OOC opponents).

Need to have the P5 game scheduled first. Until that is done, the other games (which could already be agreed upon) can't be finalized and announced.

This. Until the 9th conference game, the other one is an FCS. That's the game an additional conference game would replace I think (even though I don't think that's a great idea and the ACC shouldn't do it until everyone else has).

In the meantime, you follow this formula, lather, rinse, repeat. Go into ACC play 3-1 or 4-0 every year.

Before long, you'll be the good team people come out to the Dome to see. This is how everyone does it.
This man speaks the truth.

If it's true that he's the speedbump and being retained as Gross' good friend then he needs to go. We're a Power 5 school and need to operate like one.

I do think we have some challenges and think a 9 game conference would work well for us (but not for others). Maybe the bigger problem is that the Athletic Department doesn't have a vision if how they would like to schedule.

I volunteer for that position. I mean, how could I do worse?

the p 5 opponent is done for 2014 and 2016 as we play notre dame but nothing for 2015,2017,2018,2019(i'm not giving the @Maryland game as our marquis game that year),2020 or 2021 since the penn state games are not confirmed.

We should have notre dame in 1 or 2 of those years but acc hasn't announced ND rotation after 2016

I hope Herm is a good fundraiser for the SU AD office because his scheduling skills are TERRIBLE. If not he must be a real good friend of Dr. Gross because as I have said numerous times TexanMark could do his job in 1 day and have our schedules set for the next 5 years.
Rumor is that they are waiting for TexanMark to retire then Syracuse picks him up for scheduling. The schedules are in place for five to ten years out and he secures Home and Homes with Michigan, Texas, Alabama, LSU, West Virginia and Stanford. Our ouer games in clude Toledo, Akron, Miami (Ohio), Florida International and Florida Atlantic, our FCS games to be announced later. The Fine Lot Mess gets recognized as one of two official tailgates (another to-be-named-later will be recognized at Skytop).

I know this is what the rumor is because I just started it.

TM for Scheduler, I'd vote for him.

Schedule cupcake city baby! With FSU and Clemson every year don't go nuts OOC scheduling. Getting to 6 wins is goal #1 every year for the near future!

I'm now confident that 2014 is set. Hopefully we can start working a smart OOC schedule for 2015-18

So we got scammed again. Gave up a home game this year for a 1-1-1 deal supposedly. We would have been better off getting another home game this year vs some mid level team.

And it was a de facto away game for us. That was a PSU-heavy crowd.

Re-focus on getting teams to The Dome. Re-focus on repairing the relationship with the local and semi-local communities. And get someone that can manage a schedule. This is embarrassing.
