In looking at our roster i think that we have the majority of Pieces in place for HCDB to lead us to a bowl next year. I believe that the biggest positions of need that need to be addressed are in order of importance the following.

DT: We simply could not stop the run without putting 8 in the box. We need size and we need depth. I hope that we bring in a game ready Juco at this position.

D secondary: No explanation needed. One solid physical corner and one God inducing fear Safety. Last year we looked like school kids at the county rodeo trying to bring down a sheep. It was as ugly as i can ever remember.

As to the rest of the team i believe we are in really good shape. LB should be much improved. DE is thin but im expecting both of the stoners back if not add this position to the list.

RB OL WR Specials all good enough to win six.

Love this hire and love this staff. Nothing but good things ahead and really glad to see SS land at Maryland.

Go Orange!!

Most of the running yards were on the outside, breaking contain. Not much up the gut I think.

Franklin/Slayton/Clark did a nice job in the middle.

I'm not sure I agree with this. Fournette killed us inside, even USF ran it between the tackles. Our linebackers were constantly out of position or getting manhandled by OL on the inside runs.

To me it's all about Eric Dungey's status and whether or not he will be thrown to the curb by the university like players before him who suffered head injuries.

USF killed us on the outside. Fournette and LSU gashed everyone up the middle.

I think that Thompson lost contain and our outside LB's were out of position a lot (once Bennett went down).

Our run defense wasn't great, but our secondary was a hot mess most of the year.

The reason that our LB's got destroyed was a result of our DL getting mauled. The other teams OL got to our LB's way to often. We were just not very strong at the point of attack. The kids will get bigger and better this off season but we need a load or two im talking guys who are 315 plus to clog the middle and free the LB's up.

when i watched the film it looked like LB out of position more than DT getting manhandled. i saw plays with 3 LB in the same spot and that cant be right no matter what D you are running. a new scheme on D may also result in improvement if the gap control is changed. dont forget we played the last few games with no DE on the field when the 2 we had had to sub out.. we played clark/charles/oliver at DE down the stretch.

Yep, I saw the same thing.

In any case, what's done is done, hopefully another year of prep and a new philosophy and things will be better.

Eric Dungey is an important player - no doubt.

And I hope he can play in 2016 - I think he will fit well with Dino's offense.

I also suspect that other QBs can play the position under Dino.

And, I remain convinced that the fundamental problem with the team this past fall was its inability to get off the field. Teams ran and threw all over us - they ran inside and outside and threw long and short - at will. The UVA game was painful to watch by the end as the Cavaliers used I think two long, time consuming drives to eventually win the game.

We must substantially improve our defense next fall.

if the D makes one late stop 3-4 games change dramatically including LSU/Clemson. Young DBs that stop making mental mistakes can make a big leap in one year and a new system that may put less in their heads can big.

I completely disagree about WR. We are lacking there, and have no idea whether the guys we have fit what Babers wants to do.

OL is another positional unit I wouldn't take for granted as being "good enough." We'll see. As I've stated numerous times this season, I believe that the redshirting players will prove to be better than the incumbents who played this season. Time will tell whether that ends up being correct. But either way, we're losing lots of starting experience that won't be easy to replace there, and filling in the gaps with a lot of unproven commodities.

DT is going to be fine. Not really worried there.

Secondary -- couldn't agreee more. I'm hoping that Winfield + the experienced gained by Dowels / Hudson ends up equating to better play there next year. Safety is a mess, especially if Cordy departs.

Definitely thrown by the curb. The players are old enough to make their own health decisions. I'm sure teams use it to recruit against us.

I'm no expert, but I'm sure there is a line that football programs should draw in the sand to protect its students. We may need to be less cautious and move our line back some - but to leave it up to the player 100% would be foolishness. Also, ascribing a thing done out of concern as "thrown by the curb" is a huge overreach IMO.

Edit: if a program says they are not fit to play, they are not fit to play. If you'd prefer we can leave them on athletic scholarship to prove that the aren't being "kicked to the curb" - it's the ethically right thing to do. But kind of runs against being competitive and needing all of those scholarships, no?

so youre saying Dungey is gone??

Yep...I saw the same thing. I've never seen soooo many missed/broken tackles by LB's. Especially Hodge who was often in position but simply couldn't make the play.

I'd love to see more size at the Mike. ZF is mobile enough to play on the outside.

I wonder if Tom Brady has had 3 concussions in his career. Would the quality of his life been improved if someone decided to protect him from himself for his own good and cut his career short so that person can feel like a lifesaver?

Pro vs College, very different

I would think that he will be back. If not i would expect Cullpepper to win the job guy has a cannon will be here long enough to learn and is smart.

Oh please. You do realize that these players are continuing to play football, right?

If they really want to be the martyrs they're pretending to be then they should drop the football program. Either be all in or all out. Advise a player and his parents that he may suffer long-term effects and depend on the NCAA or ACC to set up the proper concussion rules of disqualification to follow or drop football.

Disqualifying players who are eligible everywhere else isn't saving their lives. It's needlessly pissing off certain players and their parents potentially hurting the team.

WRs are below average. I could not believe Shafer was not bringing in more. I bet Babers brings in 2 or 3 more as there is not enough talent there to support his offense. Everyone loves Ishmael (I personally don't think he is the star people out here make him out to be) and behind him is almost nothing other than a 5'9" Estime. Nobody else is average based on what they have shown or produced.

So they shouldn't do what they feel is right? C'mon. If the school decides where the line is and a player doesn't like it they get a second chance somewhere else.

(We also accepted such a player, but that breaks your tidy little explanation.)

Also, and most importantly, it's not needless if it's a decision based on doing right by the student athlete. If a player wants to risk their mental and quality of life at another institution, go for it. But the university should reserve the right to make the decision on their end.
