Preferred Walk-On Kleinberg Loves Cuse Visit
Every year,
Syracuse brings in a couple of preferred walk-ons to challenge the starters and compete for a scholarship down the line. The 2015 recruiting cycle was no exception, and Don Bosco standout linebacker
Kyle Kleinberg was one of those players. He took his first visit to his future home at the end of last week.
"I got to Syracuse on Thursday night and stayed for two days into Friday," Kleinberg said. "I pretty much met all the coaches. Primarily the Defensive coordinator (
Chuck Bullough), coach Shafer, and coach Acosta. They showed me around all their facilities and everyone was so nice and once I got there it just felt like home.
"My favorite was the new indoor turf field that they just put in. The meeting room was also very cool because they just redid it. Definitely the fact they just just installed a whole new turf, but also they are going to be filming practice from the ceilings so it will be a lot easier to see your mistakes when you watch it."
Kleinberg did have a chance to interact with some Syracuse players, but was not extensively hanging out with his future teammates. More of his time was spent bonding with the Orange coaching staff.
"My conversation with coach Acosta was mainly about how practice went this morning and how they went by their 6 AM workouts," Kleinberg said. "My conversation with coach Lea was about the linebacker core and how they were short on guys and needed guys to come in at the position and compete. My conversation with coach Shafer was mainly about the program and that they're up and coming."
The trip was a rousing success, both for Syracuse and Kleinberg. It made the Don Bosco standout realize that choosing the Orange was the correct decision.
"The visit and talking with the coaches just really helped me solidify why I chose to come here," Kleinberg said. "I loved everything about the school, the atmosphere and of course the football building."
