CAMERON INDOOR STADIUM/ DURHAM—On ESPN at approximately 10:53 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, last night—about 8 1/2 hours after Duke sealed its 70-65, overtime win against Virginia Tech—Syracuse finished fending off a second-half comeback by the hungry but overmatched Connecticut Huskies and prevailed. Analyst/screamer Dick Vitale started talking about "the will to win"—Syracuse's, that is. That's what the best teams have: the will to win.

Notre Dame (20-9, 12-4 Big East) at Georgetown (21-6, 11-5), Monday 7 p.m. ET. Let’s face it: The Big East title race has been over since the Clinton administration. Syracuse is so far removed from the opposition it’s hard to remember the Orange are still in the league. Courtesy of ND’s slip at St. John’s, though, we still have a nice little seeding battle between the Irish and Hoyas.TSN
The biggest loss will be No. 2 Syracuse, which has been the cream of the crop this year, not only in the league, but in the nation, with only one blemish on its record. The Orange, along with Kentucky, are favored to lift the trophy on April 2.
This season, however, has been a year of overachievement for an SU team feeding on a weaker Big East. Let’s not forget that when the Cuse last had a No. 1 seed, Butler ousted them in the Sweet 16 in 2010.
Syracuse will be missed, but is hardly a back-breaker for the conference.
