Decision Day for SU Target Frank Howard (PS; Ditota)

Interview From February 2013

Howard will announce at 10 PM on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic. Look for a chat on this board featuring someone from that area providing live coverage. We are currently looking for a volunteer (hint, hint).

Frank Howard, a combination basketball guard in the Class of 2015, will announce which college he will attend in a Monday night television appearance.

That announcement will come during the 10 p.m. edition of SportsTalk Live with Brian Mitchell on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic.

Mountain of Dept Creates Dearth of Diversity on Local Radio (PS; Rubin)

TWENTY BILLION DOLLARS.

That number explains why WSYR-AM decided "to go in another direction" two weeks ago when it took local radio personalities Terry Ettinger ("The Weeder's Digest") and George Kilpatrick ("The George Kilpatrick Show") off the air.

Since then Clear Channel's interest expenses have been greater than its operating income in every quarter since the end of 2008. As a result, chipping away at this debt (at an average interest rate of 7.6 percent) is a mighty challenge. This year, $461 million comes due; $2.4 billion more is due in 2016...

Troy Weaver One of 5 Candidates to Replace Dumars as New Piston GM (Detroit News; Goodwill)

With Joe Dumars' departure as Pistons president, here are five candidates that could potentially step into that role in Detroit:

■ Scott Perry, vice president of basketball operations, Orlando Magic: Former vice president in Detroit (2008-12) and Seattle/Oklahoma City (2007-08), wealth of experience from player evaluation from the old-school side and analytics side, helping rebuild teams in Orlando and OKC, and former college coach at Eastern Kentucky. A native Detroiter, familiar with local terrain and strong rapport with today’s players.

■ Troy Weaver, vice president, Oklahoma City Thunder: Succeeded Perry in Oklahoma City, former player personnel director with the Utah Jazz. Former assistant coach at Syracuse, recruited Carmelo Anthony. Strong rapport with current players.

■ Mike Zarren, assistant general manager, Boston Celtics: Employed by Celtics for 11 years. Strong analytics background, reportedly turned down Philadelphia opening last season. At 38, among the younger NBA executives.
