i understand that everybody wants to hire an SU lifer who would stay here for a decade and push away all competing options. Logic says that ain't happening. As such, our best plan is to do what it takes to hire the best chance at a "sure thing" young gun, and overpaying to do it. If we're correct that the guy succeeds, we get a big buyout from a powerhouse school that funds the next hire, which we can do from a stronger position.

It's a simple business case and the relative cost of our top choice vs somebody in our ideal budget isn't that vast.

Hopefully the powers are thinking this way.

No one in a decision making position is thinking lifer. Coyle isn't a lifer. They want to get the best coach. If he does a great job and moves to the NFL as Mac and Marrone did, so be it.

I think you are probably wrong about Coyle. If he does things right, Syracuse can be a lifer job as an AD.

He'll stay, if he can, until Kentucky opens up.

He's 9 years younger than the current AD at Kentucky, who should be there for the next 15-20 years barring a catastrophe. He's going to be here for awhile.
