Elijah Moore got off to a blistering scoring start. He scored SU’s first eight points of the game. And then he was subbed out with the rest of the starters and sat a long time before being summoned back into the game. (It was about seven minutes.)
When he got back into the game, he made another 3
Moore at that point had scored 11 points in eight minutes. For a team that struggled to score during the middle of that half, his contributions were crucial. (From the Post Standard)
Honest question: When a player is hot, why take him out of the game, and not just keep feeding him?

Good question. His defense needs work but I was surprised he didn't get more run in the first half.

Maybe he was pulled for a confidence build? Like if he played more Moore he would have missed more shots and made more defensive lapses or more. More to come.

He cooled off and got 0 pts in the last 9 minutes that he played. It was great to see him score those early baskets, but he has also been a starting guard on quite of few of our horrendous starts and he contributed to those with poor defense and low shooting percentage.

If he improves his defense he will be a fantastic player for Cuse. Defense and probably 10-15lbs of work in the weight room.
Don't ask me why, but he reminds me of Alec Burks, who surprisingly is in his 14th season. Hopefully Choppa gets more confidence and develops more of an all around game.

He has to gain Red’s confidence on the defensive end. On offense, he just needs to let it go. He doesn’t have to be wide open. He has excellent range. Yesterday was one of the few games that he came back in during the first half. Most games once he’s subbed out he didn’t come back in.

I can't explain Red's play time and sub patterns either.

Let me throw this out there and see if that sticks on the wall. What if Red made promises to recruits that he had to keep, like "I can guarantee you will play at least 25 minutes per game" so he ends up with time allocation commitments for multiple players, could this be a factor in his subbing? JB in the past might have promised starting to some players which resulted in some getting pulled shortly after games started.

If the guys that came in for Moore were playing well I could SOMEWHAT understand him not being in much throughout the rest of the game. Carlos and Cuffe didn’t do much in their extended playing time. I also understand Moore needs to improve on the defensive end and his minutes would likely increase. However, if that is truly Red’s thinking not sure why Carlos stayed in so long…..he was giving up one bucket after the other

Carlos comes in to allow JJ to move off the ball. It’s the reason he plays. He made some huge defensive plays in overtime. Carlos was fine yesterday. It’s hard to have Bell and Choppa on the floor at the same time. Ok offensively, but scary defensively.

No one has any defensive capabilities, red himself said that we would need to outscore people this year and yet he is sitting the hot hand? its dumb

A couple strong defensive plays in 33 minutes doesn’t negate the numerous times he went under a screen and gave up a 3. Yes him being on the court does allow JJ to play off the ball at times. However there were numerous times JJ still was primary ball handler and Carlos just stood in the corner. His lack of help on the offensive end (2 points, 2 assists) likely contributed to the game going to OT to start with.

He did have some type of brace around his back, on the bench.

A lot of the time, Red has tried to play 3 guards, to address the lack of a well-rounded elite one who can do it all - shoot, drive, defend and distribute. If one guy can't give you what you need, you take pieces that other guys can give you, and you fit the pieces together.

Your eye test just doesn't match what the numbers say at all.

Carlos' BPM for game was -7.1. His offensive rating was a HIDEOUS 47. That's as bad as I've seen, maybe ever, of a player that played 30+ mins in a game

Moore's BPM was +15.5.

Moore's DRtg was 106 and Carlos was 96, so Carlos better by 10 pts
Moore's ORtg was 149 and Carlos was 47, so...102 pts!!!!!

The idea their production was similar in anyway simply doesn't match reality.

But then again, you said preseason that Carlos was as good as Kadary, so really your eye test doesn't have much credibility as this point.

No matter how anyone slices it from an eye test to statistics there is no justifying why Moore wasn't on the court more that game. He was really the only one that shot the 3 well (3-3), contributed a couple assists (2...which was tied for second on the team), and played with good energy throughout...yet only played 30% of the game. Its obvious he deserved to be in more over Carlos, but I would argue over Cuffe and Bell at times too. If he decides to transfer this game will be a prime example of it being justified.
