My only issue with the injury diagnoses were that it sounded like the players are not allowed to get a second opinion. I really, really don't agree with that. I'm not sure if that is an NCAA restriction or something but no one is infallible.

Agree that seems strange but the school is probably making a concerted effort to protect itself legally (under the guise of protecting its student-athletes). Can't say I blame them and I don't think conservative head injury protocols are really something to get upset about.

Those NFL guys are typically tall. We usually have lineman in the 6'2 range. And I just looked at several photos of Giants OL. Not as big but most had a gut. And NFL guys have longer trained and better nutritional access. It's difficult to take a 6'2 6'3 college kid and take him to 300 and keep a flat stomach.

Not disagreeing with you but you'd think that would lead to signing more kids at 6-4+. I'm not saying high-end recruits but projects based on frames. Either way it doesn't feel like there's much excuse -- or at least if we're still using that reasoning now it doesn't bode well for our future.

This, exactly. With the amount of injuries we've had over the last couple of years, nobody can convince me that S&C wasn't at least part of it.

Yeah -- don't know enough to really say one way or another but it is a huge part of the game particularly for a school that needs to do more development than the big boys. Will be interesting to see if anything changes.

Status Quo wasn't working, time to blow it up. Love these moves Babers is making
If it's been so underwhelming for so long, gotta take a look at the bottom-up approach, and it seems like Dino's doing that. Sometimes those moves make all the difference.

Agreed. Like Hicks or not, the S&C Dino needs is just different. Bad form to start off pissing off a bunch of people by canning him. This way, hicks can still be there, and if he doesn't like it he has a cushion to find work elsewhere.
He'll adjust...BL: he is still vested in the university and he should stay on for retirement. I feel bad for Bob Brotzki...he seemed to do a good job.

Macky was an example of the problem faced by a short lineman. Over the years he went from 230 to 290+. He needed the girth but he looked terrible at that weight. Hope he's back down to a healthy weight for the rest of his life.

everybody hates to see some of these guys go, I am not talking about the actual coaching assistants but many in a support role but I think its best to start over from ground up. It needs to be done, we have really stunk for the past 10-12 years. Needs to be done.

Babers is a clearly a believer in his system, his people, and that it will work at Syracuse. People need to stop clamoring for retaining this guy or rehiring this guy. Babers wants his people and the people he thinks can help win games. Also this system isn't your grandfather's football. Any coach retained here was part of a pretty bad program, I can see why he's not keeping any if maybe just 1. I can certainly see why he isn't retaining any offensive guys

Babers has experience doing this, it's his ship and it will either sink or swim, at the end of the day it will fall on his shoulders. I said the same thing about Shafer and we all see that he sunk. Just because it hasn't been done a certain way at Syracuse prior doesn't mean it won't work especially with S&C, scheme, coaches and recruiting.

I swear people are sooo worked up about Northeast recruiting ties. I don't think babers worries about recruiting geographically as much as he does finding the right pieces. I don't think we will WOW anyone with star power ever, he just needs the right kids. I understand he will need kids within 6 hour radius but I think we will be fine, again I don't see any jaw dropping improvement in recruiting no matter who we hired.

Still a developmental program but this time we have a very defined proven system on offense that will quickly become the key to being competitive quickly

I think a coach should be able to put his support people in place. Ultimately, his neck's on the line, he should at least be able to give himself the best opportunity to succeed possible.

I'm surprised a Brotzki type was let go, usually there's a support guy kept around to show the new guys the ropes around campus. But, I don't begrudge Babers one bit, get your guys in there and do the damn thing.

Agree with this. Baylor and TCU, even Oregon, got rolling with 2 and 3 star athletes in their run and gun style offenses. BGSU did the same. We don't need 4 and 5 star athletes to run this system, BUT we do need the coaches, all coaches, here who understand the system and can implement it. With success, we will start getting some 4 star athletes who want to play in the system.

Yep, crawl, walk, run. Show some success and build on it, will take some time. I don't think we are starting from ground zero but there is plenty of work to be done. Having a HC with experience will help as well bu Babers will have to answer the question if his system will work at Syracuse, which I think it will.

I do believe we have a system that will allow us to compete

i am surprised at letting go Brotzki and Robinson, but just maybe we didn't know what those positions really mean to the team and the support the head coach needs.

Acosta almost to the minute he was notified,Acosta started following a lot of Rutgers coaches and supporters on twitter.

So, no chance he's going to be retained?

I have no clue on if he will be retained. I noticed he started following tons of rutgers people right after his lay-off notice.

My biggest issue was with conditioning and prepping for the games away from the Dome in the warmer and more humid climates. Was at the USF game and by the middle of the 3rd quarter you could tell the players were spent from not being prepared for that climate. Biggest difference I noticed was that at half time USF was have their players do some limited drills to keep them loose...while the SU players were just standing around. Since we are now in the ACC we play a lot of southern schools in their climate and I am not sure if our S&C program really prepped the players for those climates. I t was one thing when we played in the Big East where most of the schools were colder climate schools...but we play schools in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, etc. and our players need to be prepped much better to play in those climates. I know it was tough to do before the IPF, but now we have that and should use that to prep for those type of games.

His Twitter handle (@cuse1010) no longer exists. I think that's pretty definitive that he's not coming back...

Not sure why you would say this...

that is what offensive linemen look like. they are just wearing really ugly uniforms that make them look like oranges.

What would happen if the other sports teams see huge results and gains in the football S&C program then demand they work under Edingers guidance? Do they then cut all ties with Hicks?

The potential for friction can be a problem going forward, hope there isn't though, but Human nature can take funny twists and turns in these types of situations.

If Dino's treating everyone fairly and setting us up for the best possible on-field performance, good.

But cutting ties with tradition can be a dicey move. Hope someone's there to remind him about the alma mater and the banners at Varsity and all that.

Makes sense, he's from NJ, his recruiting area in NY/NJ and Rutgers is looking for an entirely new staff. Why not throw his hat into the ring. There was a story in one of the local jersey papers here about potential staff additions, and BA was listed. It was just the writers speculation, but still.
