I am guessing that the vote to increase the exit fee in the ACC to $20M was done with the knowledge that the SU/Pitt thing was going to happen.

Does the hiring of Red Autry tell us that JB knew this was a likely outcome, and that he (Red) had the best combination of SUknowledge /ACC contacts out there. I don't think that JB does anything by chance.

I think it did two things, both important.

1. It told SU and Pitt (or any other schools that may have been in the conversation) that the league will remain stable, unless someone wants to leave to the tune of $20M, which I would assume means$1M+ for each school in the conference.
2. It more or less forced the hands of any schools (FSU? Clemson?) who may have been 'exploring their options'. $20M is a steep price to pay, and would take a long time to recoup, no matter what league they went to (unless it was the NFL ).
