they should not have had to play a team like marquette in the freaking second round..they had ONE ing loss all year

4 or 5 seed in Portland or Alberquerque, or 6 seed in their home state.

Didn't really get screwed.

then we got screwed last year having to play Marq in RD of 32

Yea because it's all about the amount of losses. I'm glad they got punished for having a schedule. Did not play a single BCS team all year.

they had the worst resume of almost any team in the freaking tournament

you guys really still think just because a team comes from a smaller conference they cant play? murray state easily finishes top three in the big east this year

You're high. Murray State in the Big East has 10+ losses.

Murray St has a KenPom rating of 42. Big East teams between 37 and 47, are UConn, Notre Dame nad South Florida. I doubt they would lose 10+ games. But they may have not have been seeded as high as 6 either.

Murray got so screwed with a home game...they are a 7-9th place BE team

Marquette is the team that got screwed by having to play murray state in the second round, not the other way around.

i think people seriously dont actually pay attention to the talent level of the team, they just look at the jersey name on the front and the conference affiliation.

Any team that draws Marquette typically ends up screwed. I'm just glad they're on the opposite side of the bracket. They have a very solid chance of making the final four.

yeah, because having only one loss all year tells you nothing about how good a team is. how many team in ANY conference can make it through an entire regular season and conference tourney and only suffer one loss? then they played marquette, who everyone here is touting as a final four candidate, down to the wire...and yet they are a 7-9th place big east team. you guys are basically being a bunch of doug gottliebs and saying things that make no sense and are not backed up by any sort of fact/stat. just "oh they are murray state and they played a shitty schedule" ...if the Chicago bulls had played murray state's schedule they would have only won one more game than the racers did..

They played really well against Marquette, and maybe they could have finished in the top half of the BE. I have to disagree because these small conference teams may be able to put a run together in the tournament, but I doubt many of them could compete night in and night out over an 18 game conference season. They literally have 2 or 3 teams that have any chance to beat them. In the Big East any of the top 12-14 teams could beat them on a given night. Even DePaul and Providence beat top half teams.

It just isn't that hard when you can sleepwalk your way through 12/16 conference games and only really have to get up for four.

This isn't to take anything away from Murray State. They had a great season, but I think they were one of the 21-24 best teams in the country, and that's where they were seeded.

if you watched murray state play you would realize they had many games where they barely beat some truly awful horrible unreal bad teams

That is not the point, they looked real good in that game. But if you have aspirations, schedule some teams to show your stuff.

They had wins over Memphis and St. Mary's - that's not a bad showing for a mid-major. It would have helped if they played a big-boy school early on to get a better idea of things.

Nevertheless, I saw them play a few times this year and wasn't that impressed outside of the St. Mary's game. Didn't see the Memphis one. Plus they weren't very likable imo so I wasn't rooting for them. I don't even want to make a guess about how they would do in the BE - not sure where they would finish tbh. I doubt they finish near the top (that's my guess even though I didn't want to make one :) ).

Their PG and big guy would play for SU and start for lots of BE teams

Their seeding and their place in the tourney were accurate in my view. No one can take anything away from the Racers fantastic season but you have to consider the level of their competition across the entire year. They did have a couple of solid wins against St. Mary's and Memphis. But, they both got bumped in the 2nd round. 15-1 in conference is impressive but who really in the OVC was going to challenge them? And, who do you truly think they are better than from the BE? Obviously not Marquette. Better than ND? Better than G'town, Cinci or Louisville? To be honest I would love to have seen Murray State play a BE schedule. I think they would have held their own but come the end of the season I just don't know that they would have finished better than 10-8 or 11-7. You say that the opposing comments are not backed up with stats or facts but when you are comparing out of conference teams it’s hard to draw direct comparisons. But, you could look at the RPI for some indication, along with the other #6 seeds. Murray at 22, SDSU at 27, UNLV at 19 and Cinci at 43. I'm sure that the Bearcats were slightly benefited by BE affiliation and for knocking us out of the BE tourney. Furthermore, the BPI (preferred) shows Murray ST. at 34, SDSU at 40, UNLV at 28 and Cincinnati at 36. Those are only 2 ranking systems but I feel they show a fair and accurate measurement for the seeding in this case. Probably the best stat/fact though is that they lost to MU. So I guess I have to ask, where would you like to have seen them seeded and playing? As a #5 out of Albuquerque or a #4 out of Portland? I firmly believe that if they were undervalued and seeded too low, they would have beaten Marquette in their virtual home game.

But it is hard to avoid playing down to your competition for all 16 games, although they had alot of close calls.

I am not an apologist for their seed, but I will say when they played reasonably good teams this year (top 80 RPI) they competed well:

Home Dayton - win by 17 points
Neutral Southern Miss - win by 9 points
At Memphis - win by 4 points
Home St. Mary's - win by 14 points

Those are the 4 top 80 (and top 100) teams they played. A six seed seemed fair enough. Not too high, or too low.

Correct, especially in their home state.

They played 3 non division 1 teams. Forget about scheduling BCS teams, atleast keep it to D1. They played Harris Stowe, Tennessee Temple and Alaska Anchorage... When you put teams like that on your schedule you shouldnt complain about getting a bad seed.
