My gut is Mali is gone.

Ugh, we just can't hold these kids. I get it from their perspective, but it stinks for us. We would generate a ton of excitement for next year. Just think at best Mali is picked 20-30 range, which is a guarantee of nothing in the NBA.

Nothing but speculation at this point. It's like recruiting. There are 100 people "close" to these college players that tell their friends and family and ti eventually finds its way to one of these posters, fourth hand. Until we hear it from Malachi's mouth or Twitter, I wouldn't put much stock into any of these rumors.

Aside from Rakeem Christmas, have we ever had a McDonald's All American stay more than 2 years?

Devendorf - 3
Greene - 1
Flynn - 2
Fab - 2
Waiters - 2
MCW - 2
Coleman - 4
Malachi - ??

The impression I am getting is that he will declare - no agent. If it's 50-50...he goes as I think he really wants justification to declare. But...he has some grounded people surrounding him who will advise him to stay if the situation warrants it.

Devendorf was here four years...He just had a year left of eligibility after the ACL tear in 2008.

And if you go further back, Derrick Coleman stayed for all 4, Billy Owens for 4, Adrian Autry for 4 and Conrad McRae for 4 (RIP). Pretty sure all of these guys were McDonald's but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

That is all one can ask for. With the new rules, give yourself as many options as possible and then make the smart decision based upon the information provided.

For the record. I love Mal! So glad he chose Syracuse and so glad he stuck it out when the NCAA was all over the program like a starvin man on a Christmas ham. I love watching him play and hope like heck we get to watch him play another season. I hope even more that he has a successful and fulfilling future.

Different era. I doubt if Patrick Ewing 2.0 came around right now he'd spend less than 1.5 years in college.

That makes perfect sense. The dream [$$$] is NBA. Thankfully, now the kid has the opportunity to get info directly from the source and not just agents / people whispering in his ear about how high he'll go, and be able to actually see where he projects.

That information will either induce him to go, or provide a reality check that induces him to stay. Hope he stays.

I think his inconsistent shooting over so many games is really going to hurt his chances. The NBA is very much about shooting percentage. But he leaves I kind of don't care too much since we made the Final Four. Malachi did his part for Orange basketball as far as I am concerned. I hope he stays but what ever happens happens.

The best we can hope for is that he makes an informed decision based on the results of workout. If he's graded as a first round talent and he bounces, fair enough.

Agree 100%.

And at least not he's getting objective information from NBA evaluators, not subjective information from people who have nothing to do with the NBA. Can't fault a kid for making an informed decision--whether he goes or chooses to stay to improve his stock.
