I thought the suits were overkill tbh. They’re coaching teenagers playing basketball, not at a royal wedding.

I think a nice pair of khaki (or khaki-like pants), clean sneakers, and a simple pullover/quarter zip w/ school name/logo is way to go.

I agree with you. I know there's not necessarily a rational reason for coaches to wear suits and obviously casual clothing is more comfortable, but it makes the games and sport overall feel more serious when coaches dress up.

It's kind of like working from home during Covid. Once you get a taste of it there's no going back.

I’d say that’s a bit over done. Reminds me of the stuff about being told to wear a suit with a 2.5 hour commute vs business casual or recent comments of wearing business casual every time one flies. There is a fair compromise to be had here.

Somehow didn’t have any issues doing a better job than plenty who spent a few thousand to look good doing nothing…

Different things bother different people I guess. If you get results and handle yourself with class on the court… then I’m one who could care less.

When I was in high school, I was on a mock trial team that won our region and got to go to Albany for the state tournament. To celebrate we went to a nice restaurant and our “coach” told the restaurant he’d cover the bill and left. We were all dressed in suits and were talking about a court case - the waitress just assumed we were young lawyers and brought us the wine menu. We absolutely took advantage of that, how often does a 17 year old get handed a wine list?

Our coach nearly crapped himself when he saw four bottles of wine on his bill, and we were all sworn to secrecy afterwards. It’s one of my favorite childhood memories.

The key takeaway is people absolute judge others differently when they wear a suit. I do think sports had a greater appearance of sophistication and class when coaches wore suits.
