My Questions for tomorrow night's Dino Babers Show

I suspect the Miami game impacted those numbers significantly. I’m not saying the game shouldn’t be counted. The 2018 faired better in their “big game” than the 2001 team, although I believe 2001 Miami was better than 2018 Clemson. I suppose that is debatable too.
The Miami game didn't change the numbers by that much. We won games because of turnovers and sacks that Freeney created that allowed our offense to play on short fields. And it's not like I don't like the 2001 team. You can look at may avatar too.

How can you say that? Miami outgained Syracuse 566 -185. With an eleven game schedule, it is going to have a significant effect.

Well, divide the difference by 11. It comes out to 34 yards per game. That makes the yardage even across the entire season. How many 10 win teams are dead even in yardage across a season? That sounds like a 6-5 team. Freeney's pressure creating turnovers was the difference on that team.

We played 12 regular season games that year, kickoff classic against Ga Tech allowed for that to happen. But your point is still valid

In terms of how they were playing at the end of the season, there’s a good case for 2001, 2012 or 2018. All 3 were playing at a Top 20 level. Which one was the best, I’ll leave to the scholars.

That there were only 3 such teams this century and it’s 2021 is very depressing.

Sagarin ranked those 3 teams as:

2001 13th
2012 38th
2018 28th

2010 was 48th and 2000 was 34th. I believe those are the only other Top 60 seasons this millennium. So yes over the last 22 seasons we have ended Top 60 FIVE times.

this program has been a dumpster fire since McNabb left, this just makes the point that much clearer

I personally think 2018 was the best of these teams. they got burned more by big plays on D but the current RPO era is a hell of a lot different offensively than 2001. Of course that will skew the offensive numbers towards 2018 but 2001 was not a good offense in any era. People like to use the "it was all Dungey" narrative about 2018 because we haven't been good since but that is a load of crap. Dungey didn't play special teams(best in the country), Dungey wasn't one of the two DLs who had 10 sacks, Dungey wasn't on the defense that had the most takeaways in the country. That was a good team.

Really the problems started when we retired #44 in 2005. Coincidence? I think not.

We were 42nd in 1999 the 1st year post McNabb. That last season in 1998 was something.

SU 15th

We played #2, #5, #14, #18, #23, #26, #38, #60, #81, #96, #113, #118

Edit

And I bet the ACC wished it were 1998 again too.

i remember mount McKinney winning the freeney battle. dude stoned him. still HOFer. nasty fast.
as for post mcnabb we were on tear with some great QB's . really thought we would land michael vick. sat one morning in the fireplace/lobby at the Craftsmen INN and remember picking up the sports page and seeing VT. almost lost my bagel. really hasn't been the same since. the shredder has legs and knows how to use them . love the guys moxy but that alone don't cut it.
