Coach Babers’s show this year show will be Thursday nights at 7PM except when the game is not on a Saturday. This year it will be 90 minutes, with the first hour being with Dino and the last half hour being with a ‘special guest’, who in the past just got a couple minutes at the end of the show.

The show originates from Heritage Hill Brewery in Jamesville:
3149 Sweet Rd · 3149 Sweet Rd, Jamesville, NY 13078

You can also listen to the show live each week on the Syracuse IMG Sports Network and Cuse.com. Wednesday's show will be on 99.1 FM and 97.7 FM, as well. The show will regularly air on 99.5FM (Syracuse) 99.1 FM (Utica) and 1200 AM.”
You can also get it on: Listen to Free Radio Online | Free Internet Radio | TuneIn

There hasn’t been any change in the phone numbers, which last year were 315-424-8599 (local) or 1-888-746-2873. You can call to ask questions or submit them via Twitter at: https://twitter.com/CuseIMG
#AskDino or through Cuse.com, (the SU Athletic website):

You can (or could last year, anyway), listen to a podcast of the show, probably the next day, at: Search results for babers | Free Internet Radio | TuneIn

My Question(s) or Comments

First segment question:

“Coach, I really like the defense you and Coach White have put together. It shows you can recruit well and choose you assistants well. We’ve had a good kicking game for years and will again. We need to get the offense going. At Eastern Illinois, Jimmy Garoppolo had 53 touchdown passes while two guys ran for 1,000 yards. At Bowling Green Matt Johnson threw for 46 scores while a guy ran for 1,300 yards. In five years at Syracuse we’ve had no 1,000 yard rushers and no quarterback has had 20 touchdown passes. We have none at all so far this year. When does the show start? When do we re-write the record book?”

Second segment question:

“Coach, I watched the Super Bowl last season and both teams had a #87 as their leading receiver. Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce caught a total of 16 passes for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns. We also have a #87, Luke Benson, who has 15 receptions for 244 yards and 5 touchdowns, including on of 70 yards and another of 59 yards. But that’s in 15 games. This year he has 1 catch for 5 yards. Why can't we use our tight ends the way the pros do?

I wouldnt bail out the answer with "Why is it that the pros use their tight ends a lot and the colleges don’t?”

Many colleges use the tight ends prolifically. I'd like to know why, specifically, tight ends are not used in THIS offense. I actually believe that Benson has a skillset that could make him a borderline Sunday player...and that there is a not small chance he is somewhere else next season.

Agree. Those tight ends didn't get to the pros by not being used in college.

"This offense" DID use the TE's... back before Sterlin Gilbert got to town.

None of our WR's can beat their man, but meanwhile we've potentially got TWO TE's who can be mismatch nightmares for DC's -
Benson w/ his speed, Mang w/ his size -

And we literally refuse to use either in the passing attack.

I want to know the answer to question 2.

Reasonable to think Hackett and Morris left, for that reason. Also reasonable to think Benson could follow suit. WHY?

In 2019 our TE unit was arguably the best unit on offense. Very limited usage. WHY? Sure. We needed them blocking, but a struggling oline or QB? The TE is often the QBs best friend. WHY?

And no. ELMORE is not a TE. Fullback. That is not the answer.

the TE situation with us under Gilbert reminds me so much of the Bears and Greg Olsen. The Bears in a desperation move hired Mike Martz to try and fix their offense, particularly Jay Cutler. After one season of not throwing to Olsen because Martz was a jackass , they traded him for a third round pick because Olsen wasn't happy and the team wasn't using him enough anyway . He went on to kick arse in Carolina. Martz? Couldn't fix Cutler and got canned after one more season. So, basically, because we hired this dope to run the offense we are going to lose a bunch of TEs who are not being utilized, only difference is it is via the transfer portal instead of a trade

i dont know whar EDs stats were but we were pretty good on offense in 2018. His only close to full season.
look up 18 passing and 15 rushing. Not to bad, Ill take that from TD or GS.

We had WRs get by Rutgers deep about 6 times. We connected once. But I am with you on the Tight Ends.

Did you see that from the stands?
And from DVR Two times in one drive with Schrader One drop by taj, one drop by Queely I believe. One down the sideline late. there were a couple times we had guys wide open
and Tommy didn't see them. That I could only see from our seats. I didnt even include those. This idea that our WRs never get open is a fallacy. The drops are a problem though.

Our WR's must have more drops than any other team anywhere. It's maddening!!

And those are our 2 best receivers!

We have a hard enough time as it is, but when the QB puts it on their hands, and it clanks off like they are trying to catch a frozen cinder block with 2 garbage can lids -
enough is enough already!

I can't call in tonight, but this would have been my script:

"Coach, first off, it is obscene that the officials called that 15-yarder on you, especially after the berating Schiano gave them for minutes. I wish I could think it was just a bad call, but that was horrible.

"My question pertains to the offense. At Monday's press conference you talked about the woes on that side of the ball and receivers just stopping and making mistakes. The players on that side of the ball have been in the system for three years or more and certainly have not produced anywhere near the level of what was going on in your first three years. So...bluntly, are you just not recruiting well enough given what we are seeing in year six with veteran players?"

OK. I changed it so as not to pull the punch. I had thought it was difference between college systems and the pros.

Yeah but I don’t understand how you can tell if a wr is open without an all 22 view.

Yeah but I don’t understand how you can tell if a wr is open without an all 22 view. Its easier sometimes from our seats, especially from elevation. but on TV you can often tell. I consider a step past the defender open. There weren't many blown coverages where are guy has nobody on him.

The tight end question is very interesting to me. I don't expect to use them like Iowa, but I agree with others that we have some talent there that is not being exploited.

I saw an article that DB wants to settle in on a qb after the Albany game. Does not like splitting reps.
That is a joke. What splitting reps. It’s been 90 to 10 percent.
It’s clear he wants TD. It’s clear the majority of the fan base want anyone but TD.
My question would be DB you say that the qbs are splitting reps but TD is getting almost all the possessions. Can you truely say that this is a fair qb competition or assessment in live action?
Would call in but have a meeting at the same time. My guess is TD gets a majority of the reps, we run the ball 85 percent of the snaps and DB declares him the starting qb.
In the end we will see if he made the right decision or if we have a new coach in 22.

every question should be about the offense. blocking, play calling , qb performance, use of te ,etc etc etc . babers is on the hook and has to feel it.

No doubt. I watched Kelce tear us apart in 2012 at Cincy. Benson isn't Kelce though he is very good and we have to get him the ball.

i think he means reps in practice more than whats happening in the games.
