My Take

Funniest thing that happened yesterday was the incompetence of the referees saved our a$$ yesterday.
I said in the game thread.
Dungey was called for a personal foul on that scramble on his second play back when it was 34-28. The two players got ejected and at first they gave us a first down. However after review we were a yard short and the refs made it 3rd and 1 over 3rd and 16.
That stupidity was huge for us as we converted the easy 3rd and 1 and went down and finished the drive with a TD.
Total break.

I was thinking the same thing when they changed it from first down to third and short that now Dungey's penalty would be tacked on and had thought the refs had missed it, but during Lester's post game press conference he addressed it. He said he didn't understand it and had questioned the refs at the time and they said it didn't matter if 2 vs 1 dead ball penalty that they still cancelled each other out. I wasn't aware of this and not sure if refs had rule right or not but I'm assuming they did and wasn't actually a missed call.

I guess so, if you’re marking down at Clemson as a win.

I was looking at it mathematically. I can see now that if we assume that game to be a loss we need to turn around three other scores.

Dungey had his own penalty called.

Then the fight broke out. They were separate penalties. If they are from the same act they offset. We had 2 PFs and they had 1 PF:
The two from the fight offset. We got lucky the refs forgot about Dungey’s.

im pretty sure they were offsetting. even if 2 were on us and 1 on them. it was all still the same play after the whistle.

I don't think they add them up like that. All of the penalties came after the play. If both teams have one, it doesn't matter if one team has more.

I don't see 5 wins this year. It will be another 4-8 and possibly 5-7 year at most. Didn't see the spring game for the first time and bought the hype but the DB's can't cover unless the DL puts pressure and I'm hoping that WMU OL is really good and that was why. The WR's other than Custis are non factors and I am seriously hoping that at least one of the freshmen can do something to help or as I wrote in another thread, put Strickland AND Neal out there at the same time and rotate them Tailback/slot each possesion.

Why do you think that yesterday was the fully cooked version of this team?

They put up 55 points on the road, I predicted 51, so they exceeded my expectation. The defense still gives up big plays. Either they figure it out or they don't, but that was two freshmen in the back most of the game and a guy that hadn't really played game snaps the last two seasons. And three new LB's.

BTW under Marrone and Babers this team has managed to win a game at home every season but 2010 that was a legit upset.

2009, beating Northwestern, a team that went 8-5 and lost by three to Auburn in it's bowl game
2011, #17 WVU
2012, #13 Lville
2016, #18 VTech
2017, #4 Clemson

Why shouldn't FSU be next?

This is not right. We were lucky at how they handled the calling of the penalties, but not in how they adminstered the outcome. Off-setting is Off-setting, it was all after the play (Dungey was out of bounds)

Devito is faster than Dungey?
I'd say he is. Dungey is a far better runner though. Has vision, and great lateral movement.

You're completely wrong with everything you stated. But that is just my opinion

He covers A Lot of ground once he turns upfield.

Trill will start next to Frederick by season end. He has the size to make the initial tackle and speed to go deep. He is a stud.

I'm hoping he is starting long before that. Scoop was really poor in coverage. There's no time to waste. Have to get our best players on the field.

I predicted they would win 62-24 and have 350 yards rushing, pretty close on both.

I do not see the RB's/OL or the WR making as much as an impact as I wanted to see. Regarding the OL and RB...I'm hoping WMU was better than I thought on D, they might just be which would make me dead wrong which I also would be quite happy to be. ED being the main rushing guy is not a recipe for him to last or the team if they can not get the RB's to get near 5 per carry...it just is not sustainable. I like Strickland and Neal, solid but they need the OL to open holes and to add to that, I didn't really see the good protection for ED that is oh so needed for this current group of WR's to get open other than Custis and maybe Pierce.

The D gave up over 600 yards and again, hoping that was because WMU was good and not because the D was that bad. SU plays in the ACC as we all know...there are a lot of good teams that have talent and I'm guessing more than WMU. The DL did not penetrate the WMU OL like I thought they would or should, and again, the ACC schedule isn't going to be easier. The D played solid at times but it is a 60 minute game and the amount of points/yards/big plays they gave up are not what bowl teams do. They can not handle 3 or 4 and outs from the SU offense.

Again...I WANT to be wrong on this and it was a lot of points and a very good win away from home plus on grass as well. All good things. I am hoping that what I saw on Friday night point wise continues but outside of Wagner and UConn I don't think it will unless their is a lot of improvement from what I wrote above. Plus to add...the big pile short yardage thing won't work in the ACC and SU needs the WR's to help score from close which again, other than Custis I don't see it so they will continue to go with the power package and it will struggle. This power package forces ED to run the ball and we all know he will lower his shoulder or dive to score. That is not conducive to him staying healthy which is very much needed.

Is it possible Babers has other players waiting in the wings ready to explode on O and D? I hope so. I agree with you it was a nice away win and just because their have been "upset" home wins in 5 out of 9 seasons doesn't mean they get one in 2018. Love to see it, especially FSU, but I don't see that as a win unless SU can run the ball with their RB's effectively and the SU D can cover and not let get behind the fast FSU WR's and their terrific RB.

I am going by what I saw and yes a small sample study and I'll be in the Dome Saturday yelling my head off when Wagner is on O.

There are a number of positions where an experienced player does not have as much natural ability as the inexperienced player behind him. it creates a classic coach's dilemma: do you go with experience or raw talent and athletic ability. This team has more such situations than usual because it's three years into the Babers era and we are transitioning from the Shafer recruits to the Babers recruits.

We saw what happened when Williams replaced Bradshaw. Something like that could take place at several positions, assuming Babers is open to giving the guy he recruited a chance and I think he will be for the most part. I hope he does that in the running back situation but he seems less flexible there.

Dungey didn’t get called for the out of bounds play (he probably should have).

But that’s why his leash was so short on trying to help the guy up. The two that were ejected were offsetting. Not the 3rd (on Dungey).

If they didn’t review the play, we would have had 1st and 10 but they would have moved the ball back 15 yards.

When they reviewed the spot, they just forgot about it altogether. We not only kept the 15 yards, we got 3rd and 1 instead of 3rd and 16.

Maybe I have the rule completely wrong.

It's why the Patriots always instigate things off ball when one of their guys got a 15 yarder comin' their way.

Loophole. Smart, devious, whatever

True but dumb. if both teams have infractions, it's open season.
Regardless, the officials didn't make a mistake there. They followed the rules. And they that rule has been like that as long as I can remember,

Devito is faster than Dungey?

Don't think so either, ge mightbe quicker in a 10 yard radius, but i think ED is faster. Great that TD even compares.
