This one truly has to be short. Work is crazy.

This team looks like it is going to be pretty inconsistent.
Thought Northeastern played a decent man defense but it was not an extended in your face defense that often gives us problems.

Northeastern did a generally good job of taking around our transition game so we were usually forced to score in the half court. We stood around a lot on offense. Not much movement. A lot of half hearted one on one iso to burn clock. Ugly to watch.

Lots of good looks missed. A lot of them were badly missed. This is the game I expected Buddy to play his first game back, when he hadn't played in a long time and struggled to make shots.

Don't know what happened with Alan. I think maybe JB is getting on him about taking good shots and passing it if he doesn't have a good look and he took it too much to heart. Over passed some and maybe over thought some.

Marek missed some easy shots and even Kadary was infected with bad shootingitis.

I don't think even one of the backup centers played even a minute.

If the Northeastern PG did not impale his forehead on JGIII's leg, they probably would have won. Good player, the best on the court last night.

I guess I am encouraged by our defense in the second half but a lot of that can be attributed to the Huskies playing without a PG. We had to press the crap out of them to get the lead and the win (why didn't JB press the minute that PG went down)?

Thought JGIII was one of the few guys on offense who was willing to attack on offense. Thought he played one of his best games on defense as well.

At this point, we are all probably starting to take Guerrier for granted. For most of the game he was the only guy in white battling for rebounds underneath and his timely offensive boards played a big role in getting the win. I assume JB told him to stop hanging out on the perimeter and he followed orders big time. Gotta say, he is a great kid and teammate who looks to be willing to do whatever dirty work we need him to do to make the team better.

Hope this was a wake up call. Our good chemistry has gone bad and we can't play like this again the rest of the season or it will result in a bad loss.

Agree from top to bottom. The thing I like about Guerrier is what you mention about doing the dirty work. Shooters can have an off night, but hustle and rebounding can show up every game.

sounds like from most of the reports ive read (didn't see the game) effort was a problem. that is pathetic

The team played like a bunch of guys who thought they were getting the week off, but found out Monday they were being called into work for Wednesday.

This group needs a leader. Hughes led by example but was not the get your ass in gear and let's get it done guy. Joe and Quincy gave a good effort, especially Quincy but after that it certainly looked like no one wanted to play this game. In fairness- a lot of people don't want to work right now either being mentally exhausted from the year. I have seen more than a few other teams with near letdowns because they look disinterested so we aren't the only team with that issue. Gotta have 8 guys who want to get floor burns and want to win so bad it hurts and right now we have 1 guy that has done that every game and a few others in the games we have looked good.

Not worried given the flashes we have seen and still missing Sid but a leader emerging would make a big difference. I would even hope Gerry/Red/Griff can help be that guy for guys like Alan/Kadary to keep growing.

I liked what I saw from this game. Northeastern didn't confront us with the toughest man-to-man defense we'll face this year, but it was decent & they had some good height. It was good for our offense to face such a defense without losing the game. A lot to learn from. A good prep for the Buffalo game.

JB's decision to go with Buddy vs Alan made sense, actually, since 1) both have shown they can hit big 3pt shots, but 2) Buddy has more experience playing with this team than Alan. Whenever the game is in doubt in the 2nd half, JB will ALWAYS go with experience, cuz he doesn't wanna see turnovers at a crucial moment in the game.

It was also good to see that this team is improving on defense. Last year, we would have lost this game, cuz our defense at this point in that season really sucked. One reason I expect to see us competing with the other top 3 teams in the ACC is because these guys are understanding that defense is their big X-factor, the one thing they can master that will enable them to beat the best teams in the conference down the line.

And Quincy is continuing to show me that he is this team's MVP.

All in all, I'm seeing a learning curve play out that is indeed very promising...

Good recap. It's hard to believe we won that game playing like we did. Yeah, Q is just flat out playing like a star. The thing I really like about it is it comes from effort. It's not like he's just hoisting up 3's. His production comes from a commitment to work. Putting Q's 3 point shooting aside (which is wonderful to have), isn't this kind of play what Boeheim expected out of Roberson?

Good stuff.
I’ve never been a JB is too easy on Buddy guy. I thought AG was awful yesterday, especially on d. That having been said Buddy took some awful shots yesterday and it would be understandable if AG was wondering why he got buried and Buddy didn’t. JB said that Buddy got good looks and did not call him out for chucking which is puzzling. I thought he forced up a number of bad shots.
i’m confident this will be an outlier for Griffin. I loved the fact that JB sees that Griffin is too concerned about scoring and is prioritizing teaching Griffin the importance of being an all-around player.
This is nothing new but I never understand why JB seems to think it will help a player to call him out in the media. I always wonder if this is a bad look for recruiting.
JG3 has to be more aggressive on breakaway opportunities and if he gets blocked so be it. He also needs to take better care of the ball. That turnover in the final minutes which gave Northeastern a little bit of life cannot happen.
I don’t think our offense was as bad as it looked. We missed some really good looks and also had a number of balls rim out.

The difference is that we are an unselfish team against BC. Yesterday a lot of players want to have better statistics for themselves.
I agree with the first part of your post - being an unselfish team against BC. I would not rush to everyone wanting "better statistics for themselves". I think as the game started to unfold and we were not hitting anything except for Q cleaning up what he could, the others started pressing to pick up the slack for each other. Unfortunately everyone was struggling, missing and the poor offense spilled over into shoddy defense and Northeastern was building confidence. Someone mentioned earlier, the whole team was still taking the week off. Let's hope this was a learning experience for this team. Be ready to play and do not take anyone lightly.
