My Take

Exactly this.

It makes no sense. Our other options are atrocious.

I’m in my 40s and Filardi may have been the worst QB to ever start a game for Syracuse football in my life.

Even if Carney isn’t good or not fully ready, who cares?
I put this on Nixon.

Come Hell or high water, Nixon is going to throw the ball, even if the game situation doesn't dictate that it makes sense (see our bizarre end game/before the half play calls).

He doesn't trust Carney's arm. So he doesn't want to play him. He'd rather have Collins throw interceptions and have Filardi's "better" arm throw incompletions all over the place than see what Carney can do. Remember, at the end of the day, these guys have to fight really hard to overcome meathead tendencies, and right now Nixon's losing that battle. There is no possible way Filardi was better prepared to start that game ON A SHORT WEEK than Carney. Otherwise, overlooking Carney's participation in spring ball and all the practice reps he's gotten as a backup is an admission that our staff can't coach and their player preparation in practice is worth nothing.

As embarrassing as the play on the field has been, the mishandling of Carney is even worse.

Games like last night makes you wonder if Villanova does things smartly with their football and basketball. Very hard for a private school to be good in both so most of the money is channeled into one direction. Just saying

Agreed 100%

Has to be almost all of us though, right? At least through the end of December, maybe halfway thru January.
I'm just saying, some of us are football onlys. I don't go over to the basketball side and talk about football. It just irks me.

I'm also a grump today because of last night tbh.

This is a very good point. I might not be against channeling more money towards football.

Fran mentioned sitting down and looking at film with parents who thought their kids should be playing. As with any parents, I’m sure Luke’s have seen what we all see and are wondering why he isn’t getting more of an opportunity.

It was said a bit ago... about redshirt and eligibility... Don't know if that is valid any more or game play, but it is what it is... My opinion. Next year starter or at least going to be depending on Angelli recovery or portal. They are both in the mix and valid. Collins, not so much given his turnover record.

I'm certain he hasn't played perfect football, but what I'm questioning is if there's a sliding scale being applied to how his play is assessed.

Like, maybe Carney blew a read on the one running play where Willis got smacked as soon as he took the handoff, and of course Carney wasn't supposed to take a sack. BUT WE'VE SEEN OTHER DUDES MAKE MUCH WORSE PLAYS. And yet Collins gets 4 starts to show he's not up to the job and Filardi has 2 more completions than Carney in 15 more attempts, but sure, Carney's play demonstrates the obvious fatal flaws.

It doesn't make sense.

How about the absurdity of a depth chart that is bull poop. Maybe the ACC should fine us. How do you go from QB4 to starting and QB1 to not playing?
