My Take

I suspect NC State will be the high-water mark for SU fans in opposing venues in the Atlantic, aside from BC for obvious reasons. Such a large presence of former CNY residents in NC, and I imagine a growing amount of alums too.

Can't see us having much of a presence in Death Valley or Tallahassee. Not in Louisville starting next year either. Might have a decent turnout in Atlanta, and don't know what to expect in Winston-Salem.

Great report Tom, thanks. While winning is the most important thing, it's all the "other stuff" that makes the college game appealing IMHO. It'd be cool if our identity in this southern-leaning conference was to be the tough, northern team that always leaves the opponent feeling beat up, win or lose.

I don't know if there are direct flights from Syracuse to Greensboro but PTI is an easy, smallish airport to fly in and out of. Hopefully they don't schedule the game at the same time that Fall furniture market is going on, the hotels will be booked solid. Winston is closer for the Charlotte alum base than Raleigh.

Their board is funny. A couple of guys are ripping on Doeren for not throwing the ball enough.

They had 50 attempts. That's not throwing the ball?

Thanks Tom. NC State fans were very nice to us but wow it was like they were at a teacher's convention rather than a football game.
We heard you guys 9 sections away and we could hear you Tom - great job.
I thought there were at least 3,000 Cuse there. Next time we need to get 5,000. How awesome would that be?!
From what I remember - Tom's voice is the equivalent of 55.7 fans.

Another great report. Never miss "My Take". :)

My parents retired to the Durham-Chapel Hill area and found themselves surrounded by transplanted northerners so there are probably a lot of SU alums or at least former New Yorkers in the area.

Great point about the D-linemen coming in their hands up which can help the struggling defensive backfield.

I'd like that Penn State game again.

It's nice to see the team improve as the season progressed. That's what happened last year and it could be happening again.

Nice writeup.

I tailgated somewhere else with some NCState friends. Unlike the usual Big East hostilities I got nothing. One boo, a couple of older guys welcoming me to Raleigh, but generally nothing.

Those tailgates were impressive. Smokers, flatscreens, red tents everywhere, RV lots, very impressive stuff if that's your thing. At NCSU you can leave a halftime, go back to your tailgate, then re-enter the stadium. A lot of folks skipped the re-entry part.

Section 1 was cool, all our fans, loud and fun. Chik Fil A was a score too. Those giant lemonades are great, um, mixers.

The game was what it was, great to win and represent. Backyard Bistro on the way out, kind of like a poor man's Clyde's in DC.

Thanks Tomcat! Great write up on the game. Chik-Fil-A is great. I keep forgetting that they aren't nation wide yet. Their grilled chicken sandwiches and wraps and waffle fries excel!

We didn't get a warm welcome either; they ignored us almost completely, to the point where we started engaging some of them in conversation; maybe just to prove to ourselves that we were there and alive.

Ha ha ha! That was hilarious! If SU fans don't get heckled at the stadium, do they really exist?

Thanks for the great write up, as usual!
I was waiting to cross a street near the stadium with my brother-in-law an dof course I has my Orange shirt etc. on. A NC State Trooper motions to me and yells, "Hey you from New York, come on, you're used to wandering out in traffic!" I laughed caused he was smiling, but that told me I was definitely south of the Mason Dixon!

Tom - Your report is making me think that I should travel to Atlanta next Saturday.
Of course you should.

We'll be in lot W26.

Wasn't the prettiest or best executed game SU has ever played but the run defense and offense stepped up huge to pull out an away conference ACC win. Now General Scott Safer has to visit Atlanta and torch those Yella Jackets!
