I was late to the tailgate because of a golf commitment. From what I could see it was well done and a big success.

Very disappointing crowd at the dome today. Poor turnout by the students as well as the regular fans. My guess is that the crowd was approximately 21K.

The good news is, the fans that showed were loud and supportive. Wake Forest brought a very small contingent. I estimate maybe 150 people.

We cut a huge perhaps season changing break when Campanero went down with an injury early in the game. Wake relies on him for their offense more than any player in the ACC. Losing him was devastating to them.

Still props must be given to the Syracuse defense for giving a great performance.

Thought the key to the game was Syracuse's ability to put pressure on the quarterback, often only rushing three defensive lineman.

Great job by Micah Robinson, Isaiah Johnson, and most especially Jay Bromley.

Nice job by the defensive coaches, who used a mix of man and zone pass coverages and well disguised blitzes to confuse the Wake Forest passing attack.

As good as the Syracuse defense was the first half, the Syracuse offense was horrible. Amazingly bad. Execution was bad. Play calling was bad. They often struggled to even line up properly.

I give credit to offense of coordinator George McDonald for being innovative and extremely ambitious. He has the offense using an amazing variety of formations. This new offense seems to borrow from every scheme known to mankind.

The problem is, it is too much for the kids to handle. Players look confused on a regular basis. Execution is consistently bad. There is a desperate need to simplify things. Frankly there has been for sometime.

This is not uncommon for a young offensive coordinator. Nathaniel Hackett ran into the same issue during his first couple of years calling plays here.

In the first half Wake Forest played eight or nine minimum box and dared Syracuse to pass. George took with the defense gave him, passed a lot, mostly bubble screens, with little success.

In the second half, the offensive had more success, using a mix of running and passing plays.

Someday in late November, perhaps we will look back to the first drive of the second half, as the hard nosed drive that defined the season and made the season a success.

Thought Hunt had a good game. Threw the ball quite well. Made good decisions consistently. He was a major factor in this game running the ball as well. Best of all he had no turnovers and was not close to making one. If he can play like thistle rest of the season, we will go bowling.

At halftime, the SUMB (10 tubas), did a tribute to Earth , Wind and Fire. Some unknown people sat in on the session and played some serious trumpet. Nice job: very enjoyable show.

After the very ugly first half, so was the game.

i thought it was interesting that the reverse pass play started a man short, gulley came in late. they lined up on the wrong side of Hunt , looked to be playing musical chairs and then the play worked too perfection, west almost could have run it in with one missed tackle..

I thought it was Blood,Sweat and Tears the tribute.

look to be over 30,000 in attendence

I wondered if that was all intentional to get wake to think we were confused.

not even sure why the students bother coming. the student section was full at first half, but inexplicably more then half empty by the time the 3rd quarter started. never mind the game was 0-0

I am less concerned about play calling because I think we are hampered with so many issues. I do wonder about play design. too many plays that have congestion in the pass routes. it would help if hunt would hit more than 10% of his deep balls when we actually manage to get a guy open.. almost always too far, of course one today he was 10 yds too short.. One play today Wake was playing a single high safety, we send Estimie on a go route but he takes an inside release and the ball is then led inside and the safety just gets there.. either the WR needs to get an outside release or the throw has to lead him outside away from the safety once he beats the Db.. its the little things that break down some of these plays.. looking back at 13 pts.. we missed an XP, passed up a FG and got stopped at the one, dropped a INT that as an easy pick 6, didnt even get a FG attempt on FD from the 30 and missed Broyld who was 10 yds behind the DB for an easy long td pass.. turned a simple 35 into 13.. but we have been doing that all year and it cost us the PSU game.

Hunt played today. Defense decided it was game day as well. It was a W. What more can we ask for? (Don't be a dick in your response.)

21k?? looked to be 35+ to me on tv.

and i think axe tweeted that whatever the announced crowd was, was the most accurate it has ever been which was in the high 30's.

Student attendance is an issue at a lot of schools other than SU. I hate to say it's a generational ADD, smartphone, etc thing but the truth lies somewhere in there. I'm 25, in grad school and feel so different than undergrads.

FYI it was family weekend so the "student section" was only 107 on the side of the band.

imo if we are serious about fixing the attendance problem i would start with addressing the wi-fi, or lack thereof. It's almost impossible to send a text, make a call, or surf the web inside the Dome. Schools are just starting to address this problem, i'd like to see us be ahead of the pack for once on something, and this could be it. Sure it's not a cure, but it could help keep people there, as well as just adding a convenience. plus how else am i supposed to find out of town scores? it's not like that post them at the Dome.

2 different issues though.. wifi is the school.. text messaging or calling is the provider.. the school should be working with verizon/att or whoever and get that problem solved.. i dont think the school wants to spend the money to fix the wifi it would probably take 100 WAP to do anything noticeable but given it would help40 time a year it might be worth it..

I sit in 118 and had great wifi. I streamed the Rutgers temple game on my phone and sent texts to my wife

I think your attendance estimate is way off Tomcat. Definitely at least 30,000 butts in seats, probably more.

Thanks, Tom. Love the recap. I think there are too many formations, offense needs to be simple and flexible to make easy adjustments instead of the Pasqualoni/DeLeone playbook. Just an opinion, for what it's worth. Defense looked solid and clearly plays better with DDavis, kind of like he is the heart of the D.

So did you like rhe way the game ended--score wise???:noidea:

Agree there was about 30k and that there is no student section for parents weekend. Students were spread out.

Can't really judge the students on parents weekend since they're mostly scattered throughout the Dome.

I have always said that I'd rather our offense run a myriad of plays from a minimum of formations rather than a minimum of plays from myriad formations.

I've thought about this too. Actually today the 4G coverage was very good. Usually it's terrible and I can't check scores. Truth is that upgrading wifi can run into the seven figures and stadiums don't way to pay it because it won't bring in seven figure benefits.

Coverage was better today but the Dome and that area seems to be a huge battery drain.
