Tommy played well today, OL did decent. I think the running game helped open things up.

Thought he saw the field really well and made great decisions keeping and handing off the rock. Was on the money accurate with the ball.

Defense was opportunistic.

There is one thing that I want Tommy to improve on... He gets a little panicky when he has to leave the pocket... Even on some roll outs there are guys open that he is not seeing... I think he needs to work on his vision under pressure.. Its extremely difficult to work on this... but he needs to remain calm and see the field. its only a few times a game he is missing wide open guys under pressure but it would really have teams thinking twice about bringing pressure if he can raise his level of play in this area.. I thought he played pretty well today.. I am a fan of him and you... Tell him to keep working hard to get better.. he has the arm.. he needs to get the game to slow down just a bit... Great positive win for the young man today

I have to watch the film first
But today was the first time he didn’t have to fear for his health hopefully he gains confidence in his teammates moving forward
Not easy knowing your gonna get hit 1

The O line deserves all the credit
The run game well tucker was the difference
I don’t want to critique tommy yet but I saw some things that may need some criticism for sure . We were able to get Hackette up the seam looked like it was on target and going to be a big play at least we got the PI . Hackette is an awesome blocker but those PI yards were a direct result of the line doing a good job allowing him to run a route instead of block . I’ve said it time and time again life and football are dominos one good thing leads to another. Tommy had beautiful protection on the 2 deep balls we needed it . A couple of concerns our run D is suspect if I played us I’d never throw on our awesome secondary.
I might take a lil flack for this but I’m watching sports center we made the top plays !!!
But great catch after great catch they even said these catches are routine liberty just had one . We haven’t made a “play “ since custice
Nykiem made a very subtle adjustment on the TD . But Not even a 50/50 ball . Drops happen but iwe need a go get it guy . Me talking out loud . Taj Nykiem,Courteny ,JJ yes JJ in the slot
Baron and Hendrix quelly outside . Maybe Barron isn’t ready idk but on paper looks great.
Costello 623 yards ? vs LSU !!! I’d like to see how they did that I didn’t see much of the game .

I watched a ton of football Saturday and every other teams WRs - on the looks test - dwarf our guys. Taller, thicker, it's insane how big some of these receivers are.

The deep balls were money. One throw early was spot on just needed a tad more air under it. Tommy looked like his old self. Great to see. Really happy for the guys and the parents:)
Toss some Bailey's in the Joe. You deserve it!
 
It makes all the difference when the offense can get something on first down and when the running attack (Tucker) can be a threat. It is like against Duke last season, or the second half against FSU when Tommy subbed for Dungey in 2018. In both of those games, the running was working, Tommy’s passing numbers were good enough.

‘Tommy looks better when he isn’t expected to do it on 2nd and long, 3rd and long, and defenses know they can bring pressure.

The staff seems to be in agreement. The three WR recruits for next year are 6’3,6’3, and 6’4. Departure of Jordan and Hendrix’s injuries made the position much smaller than anyone is happy with. Alford also got to camp late because of COVID so it’s unfair to expect too much from him.
 
The biggest adjustment to the 3-3-5 scheme always was and will be the ability to adapt to this new run defense. You are down one additional defensive lineman and are relying on an additional safety/DB to be there at the line of scrimmage. Setting the edge is a similar issue that hurt us yesterday. If the outside backer isn’t blitzing, he has to use his length to shore up the edge or else the RB is going to get to the sideline and down the field. Linton and Stefon Johnson need to improve here (and I realize they are just freshman).

Missing Cisco and Labrosse (is he okay?) yesterday hurt not only from a talent standpoint but from a size and length standpoint. Robert Hanna was playing a safety position at probably 175 lbs. Yikes.

We have a mix. I think Queeley is listed as 6'3" 197. That's solid. Hendrix is beast size at 220. We know Taj is skinny and our slot guys are short.

I would love ro know what's keeping Hendrix off the field. Wasn't he projected as a started before his first injury? Has he never bounced back completely?

He is doing well but something is up non football related I can’t air some things
Watch sports center 2 top plays we have

Alford and Javontae , our two frosh WRs are 6'5 and 6'2 respectively.

Alford was one of the many on the field with no pads before the start.

Hendrix looked enormous when he was out there, but it appears he's been dropped to scout team, mop up squad.
 
Taj Harris is a great talent but is more Erv than Steve if you get me.

it’s easy to notice why he didnt contest harder for the 50/50, he can’t soak up contact before the catch. Its not lack of effort imo, he just doesnt have the build for 50/50s
 
It was actually fun (at least for me) to watch Syracuse University Football yesterday. Sean Tucker does not play like a freshman. He gets to north and south pretty quickly and almost always falls forward after first contact. Also very happy with his ball security (had my fingers on my left hand crossed and both feet as I typed this). I think Syracuse may have found their running back for 2020 and beyond and I can't wait for Josh Hough next year. Offensive line was better but still needs to vastly improve. Hopefully some of the missing pieces return soon. Much better game for Tommy DeVito. It's amazing what a little protection and much better play calling will do. Still need to incorporate the tight ends in this offense and that will lead to more production. Finally nice to see the middle of the field used. DeVito throws darts over the middle so there's your hint Mr. Gilbert. Wideouts were good but still need to catch the catchable balls. Offense is still very much a work in progress but performances like yesterday get the unit going in the right direction.

On Defense I was a little concerned about how effortless Georgia Tech could run successfully against Syracuse. Although I will say this. When Ward was the DC, the opposing back many times had a huge hole to run through. This wasn't the case yesterday. Most of the success that GT had was based on very poor angles by the Syracuse tacklers and many many missed tackles. The poor angles and the poor tackling have to get cleaned up or future opponents will take advantage. The secondary is as advertised despite missing Andre Cisco. Hannah, Carter, Williams, Iffy, and of course Trill look like a formidable group. Nunn and Jonas had some good plays too. I'll also bet that Coach White will remind the defense that they had GT in a 1st and 35 and they ended up getting a first down. That can't happen either.

Special Teams has some things to clean up too. I'm sure Coach Lustig will get it done.

It's only one game but lets hope that during the bye week, the positives from yesterday get enhanced and the negatives are addressed and eliminated. Here's to beating the snot out of Duke in two weeks. Go Orange!!!!!!
