We made the 400 mile round trip from Manhattan to College Park and back in one day, and it was incredibly worth it. It was great to see Tomcat, SUBarney, CuseGuy, Rundeal (and Mrs. Rundeal), and Shexon, plus great to meet JSOrange, OiG and his spirited pants, Nails, Bnoro, and many others. Thanks to those who fed us and took the time to chat!
My girlfriend and I took the time to walk around the UMD campus. Very Southern looking and very attractive. For the most part, Maryland fans were very friendly and happy to talk football.
We sat on the 40 yard line way, way up in the stands. From our seats, we could see the top of the Washington Monument. Very cool.
This was the first time I've seen the team in person since the Penn State game. The offense looked much, much more cohesive (thank goodness). Our offensive line forced the issue against Maryland's D, opening holes and keeping T. Hunt clean all game.
Our running backs looked great. Smith should legally change his middle name to "Four yards" because he's going to get at least that many every time he touches the ball. Morris- wow. He's the most running back-looking running back we have. Fluid, good burst, good vision. I can't wait to see what he does next year. I hate to say it, but Gulley's injury may have helped the running attack yesterday.
The passing game, well, let's just say I was a huge proponent of running the ball every snap during the second half.
On defense, our front seven had another monster day. It's no coincidence that Syracuse's 3 ACC wins have come against teams with O-Line issues. There was constant pressure from just about everyone who put a hand down (Bromley, Robinson, Crume, Welsh, Thompson, Zeke, etc.) The linebackers were everywhere. No one really seemed to be fooled by option looks or reads, and Brown's running was very limited.
The secondary played fine. Anderson had leg problems in the second half and Eskridge was nowhere to be seen. To be honest, I think our secondary looked at its best with Whigham and Kelly out there. Those guys can play ball.
Thanks everyone for a great time. See you at the Dome for the BC game!
