Watched the game from the West Coast as I was visiting my daughters. West Coast Saturday football is odd for sure but personally I like it. Lots of games over by 1pm which provides the rest of the day for other pursuits.

I think that Syracuse played a solid game. On the road, at night, first away, packed stadium and a national tv audience all support the home team.
Both Beck and Rocky had the guys extremely well prepared. I don't think that anything Purdue did on either side of the ball surprised us. on the other hand, I felt that we showed them different looks. Especially on O with the sleight of hand and called Shrader runs. Special teams other than our kick offs were sub-par and there needs to be an emphasis on that area of our team or it is going to cost us down the road. The show me state kid had a case of the yips and it really showed. Snaps and blocking were fine he simply choked. Hopefully this is the last time as he has the goods just needs to remain composed on the big stage.

The Oline to my untrained eye did very well. Shrader had time and although they didn't blitz too often, they are very physical up front and, on the edge, and I thought our guys played great.

The Wr especially hatcher blocked well. Catching the ball is another story. maybe as Dino said it was the night lights or maybe they just are not that good at their primary task. Time will tell but we have had too many drops the first three games to blame it on lights. This is an issue that needs to be addressed if it can be. One thing that I wonder about is why we don't use Alfords size to our advantage. He is not only tall but he's big. I want to see him coming back to the ball and using his body to shield the defender. Button hooks (old school) curls, anything that brings him towards Shrader should have success and will set him up for stop and go opportunities.

I also want to see more of Gil. he catches the ball and is a Yac guy waiting to happen. long as well. If the other kids keep dropping dimes let's give these guys some run.

The D was exceptional. no complaints all compliments. The Purdue QB reminds me of Lamson. Good accurate arm can run but isn't a runner. Glad they didn't run him earlier as I think he could have done some damage. upfront and lbs. were exceptional. Thought our CBs were great. I wasn't impressed with Simmons didn't think he played well seemed late on breaks and was out of position. Need more pressure off the edge but otherwise another great performance by the mob.

Getting back to the start of this post my game balls go to Shrader, Coach beck and coach long.

Lamson left because he was told the job was Shraders and boy were the coaches correct. He is the heart and soul of this team. Tough as nails, cool hand luke. As to our two coordinators they are as good as we have had in 20 years. Coaching matters and the job these two and the entire staff has had is evident. I hope we keep them both for a minimum of two more years. Beck will be hard as he is going to get offers. We need to pay him big money and only have him leave for a head coaching job not another oc spot. Coach long will stay as long as he wants to coach. Hopefully a few more years. Hats off to Dino and JW for landing them.

3 and 0, soon to be 4 and 0 as we will handle the Black knights.

Gosh this is fun. Go Orange!

I wonder on the punts if there might have been some winds circulating within the stadium. That can happen from time to time. That said, he was probably a little over hyped and muffed.

On the few times they highlighted Simmons on the TV broadcast, it wasn't good. I'm hoping that was isolated and not indicative of the whole game, but that was worrying.

But on the whole, great job by the D. Marlowe Wax is just fun to watch. Credit to McDonald as well. He made a few amazing plays.

McDonald is playing himself into a spot on an NFL roster. Simmons was off for sure hopefully he bounces back.

Agreed, I thought McDonald looked great. He looks much bigger than 224lbs roster listing.

He is long and rangy. Plus, the kid really hits. I like him and want to see Kadim get more run as well.

Yes, on the whole — great job.

Now, if you break it down, the defense against the run was outstanding. 3 stops against 4th down plays, including Purdue’s first drive inside the 10 yard line. 3 fumbles recovered, 2 more forced but not called in our favor, and 1 interception.

In between all that, Purdue racked up 400 yards, over 300 yards of that passing, and 28 first downs. Their QB had a lot of time as we got only 1 sack and only a few pressures. Their WRs made plays.

It was a good performance by our D but not a dominating performance.

Was at the game…wind was minimal at best.

He was having no issue kicking them during halftime and pregame warm ups

We kept everything in front of us which is good I hope we play like this against Clemson and fsu. Don't give up the long plays make them earn it!

With a two score lead, they played zone behind three and man pressures. Shorten the game by making them run a lot of plays per drive and burn clock. Don’t give up anything over the top.

Generating 7 fumbles and gaining 5 TO’s is pretty dominant.

Stonehouse averaged 42.4 on 48 punts for Missouri last year, playing outdoors vs. SEC opponents. I don't know what happened in the first half last night, but it would seem to be an anomaly.

Game times were definitely an adjustment when I moved to California but my favorite are the 9am’ers because I’m done watching by the time I go to lunch lol.

Careful now. I suggested our lack of a pass rush is a concern and got escorted out of the room.

Funny. As you saw, I put it in the context that other elements of our defense were strong.
I thought Rocky tried a variety of fronts, some 4 or even 5 man rushes - give Purdue’s line credit for keeping our guys from getting to the QB. Our young DEs, particularly Jobity and Jaques, may get better and show more.

Penetration by edge rushers is a big push in defending option football. Blow it up before the QB gets there!
